Blum's argument is stupid because the people who don't care about AI, also don't care if a work isn't AI (or care about much of anything), but using it means losing the people who do care. Not using it keeps everyone happy.

Jason Blum's take on AI sucks. an AI takeover isn't inevitable, and treating it as such (while also referring to filmmaking as "content creation," smdh) helps AI companies promote the lie that their deeply unprofitable, destructive tech is more powerful and useful than it actually is.

Criticizing Dolly Parton for her plastic surgery is a great way to tell the world you're an asshole who needs to be blocked without actually saying so directly.

Watching an interview with Desmond Child, the songwriter behind "I Was Made for Loving You", "Living on a Prayer" and "I Hate Myself for Loving You" and I gotta say, I hope I'm looking like this when I'm about to turn 72.
Screencap of Desmond Child in a baseball hat, hipster glasses, with a trim neat beard. Des[ite being born in 1953, he could easily pass for someone in their late-40s, early-50s.

Social media is like being drunk. It doesn't make you into someone else, it reveals who you are inside.

I actually think the reason why I have a relative healthy relationship with social media is because I almost never use it via my phone. For me, it's something I do on my laptop, so if my laptop isn't in front of me, I'm not on social media.

This is a baffling question to me because I've experienced far more good than bad because of social media. It's like asking, "Has anything great happened in your life because you read a book?"

Made a lot of friends.
Became co-host of a podcast.
Became a writer for xoJane.
Got my current job.

This is like a politician in 1967 going, "It's a shame they went with The Beatles, when they could have gone with someone with broader appeal like Laurence Welk."

It's more than worthwhile. It's one of the Bee Gees' biggest hits!

I've seen KFM a dozen times, so I know all of its specific skits, while with TGT and TV, I remember the basic vibes and not-so-much the actual jokes. 😂

and it mimizes the actual pain & loss while projecting onto a future that is a fantasy.

It's really okay to just deal with the fact that something is sad and bad and allow it to be that. Face the reality along with the person going through it and allow them to grieve the things they are grieving.

I was going to add "And Betty Thomas in a g-string and pasties" but then I checked and that's TUNNEL VISION, which is essentially the same movie in my mind.

I should pick this up. I'm just as curious to see how Callow measures up as a biographer as I am learning more about Laughton.

It's completely fair to "hold both parties to equal scrutiny". The problem comes when you magnify minor issues involving Dems while minimizing major issues involving the GOP because one party is clearly and objectively more criminal than the other.

If you'd like to delight in a side-by-side comparison, here's Bari Weiss' reported note to CBS staffers (left) and the one I cooked up on ChatGPT with a quickly dashed-off prompt (right). Looking forward to hearing from you in the days and weeks ahead!

My fave Rich Little fact is how in interviews he'd claim that the one impression he never did was Bob Hope because he had too much respect for the man. But then SCTV's Dave Thomas wrote that Little asked him how he did his famous Hope impression because he had never been able to crack it himself.
