Many of the women in House with Heart’s Skillful Hands sewing and felting programs in Kathmandu, Nepal grew up without access to formal education. Poverty or cultural norms on gender often meant that school was never an option.

Halloween may not be widely celebrated in Nepal, but at HWH our girls turned it into a night of creativity and family fun. In colorful costumes and face paint, they sang, danced, and performed for a playful panel of “judges.” The evening ended with laughter, small gifts, and homemade candies.

On our recent visit to Paropakar Maternity & Women’s Hospital – a busy public hospital in Kathmandu where over 200 babies are born each day – we delivered 50 baby clothing sets to new mothers, including three sets of twins in the C-section ward.

Education is a top priority at HWH, a family home for marginalized girls in Kathmandu, Nepal. In the evening after dinner, the older House daughters receive extra academic support from a dedicated tutor – affectionately known in the House as “Sataman Sir” – who visits six nights a week.
