Prior to Twilight, I recommend watching Harper and The Drowning Pool. Even if you've seen them before, it's worth the refresher. A lot of folks (myself included) consider Twilight to be the unofficial third film in a Harper Trilogy.

Definitely an homage. Of the two films in which Benton explored this theme, The Late Show is more light hearted than Twilight, but his humor tends to run dark even then.

Might also have a look at Chandler (1971), a middle age approach to a detective who's past his prime and stuck in another era.

The Late Show (1977) isn't a spoof. It's the story of a retired private detective dragged back into the business when his old partner turns up murdered. It's about people still having worth when they get old. Shares DNA with Twilight (1998). Both films were written and directed by Robert Benton.

In the mountains you've got bears, cougars, snakes, heights, and hypothermia. In the swamps you've got gators, snakes, bears, panthers, and quicksand.

Either way, the greatest threat, as always, is man.

There are a few of the early reality shows that I look back at fondly, like A&E's Family Plots, and of course my beloved Rollergirls. My low point may've been A&E's Parking Wars.

Just saw a fella, well intentioned, I suppose, suggesting that when it comes to themes of morality, Spaghetti Westerns basically invented shades of gray. Over here shaking my head in decades of American Westerns.

Weapons turned out to be wildly satisfying. It's amazing how much a movie benefits when they really stick the landing. Glad that I managed to avoid spoilers and never even watched the trailer.

Thought I'd watch Weapons since it's up for an Oscar and figured now might be a good time to finally watch The Substance, since it was up for an Oscar last year.

But it definitely wasn't for editing. They could have easily shaved 30-45m off of that runtime. Suddenly everyone's David Lean.

If you're going to cite the action sequences, tradition dictates that you call it A Special Magnum for Tony Saitta. Strange Shadows is for the giallo crowd.

Yeah, if New Coke is anything to go by, they must've at least been beginning to phase out by 1985.
