All of this, while seeing reimaginings of classics that put a new spin on them is always fun, or continuing a story left unfinished, There are so many other genres or concepts just aching to be explored

Things get stagnant when everyone chases the same genre, or chases after recapturing lightning

A lot on the our mind this morning as you can see, but deep breaths, eyes forward, we do what we can with the time we have... While trying to keep the traumatized fighter in us at peace

It's not easy, and GOD we wish this stuff was taught more at a younger age
howilingmadfox.bsky.social
This is not exclusive to Social Media, before social media, it was the news, whether it was through the TV, Radio, or the news paper, people have always falling into spirals from not knowing how to react when they see things are on fire

And no one is ever taught how to manage intense reactions
howilingmadfox.bsky.social
There is a lot happening in the world right now, and as much as the reactionary part of us wants to be Superman and just fly in to solve everything... People are human... They have limitations.. And the reactionary mind is ESPECIALLY not equipped to handle stress
howilingmadfox.bsky.social
It's hard to catch when it happens because by nature.. We are hardwired to trust that when survival mode activates there is a good reason for it, when often it's been triggered by a false alarm

The trick.. Even though it's not easy for many, is to stop and redirect the attention
howilingmadfox.bsky.social
The reason people fall into doomscrolling spirals is the reactive part of a person is actively trying to seek something positive to react to... But when it is bombarded by bad news or sensationalism, the senses get overwhelmed... Survival mode activates, the mind races and the heart pounds
howilingmadfox.bsky.social
We talked about in a previous thread about Doomscrolling and how it is tied to the survival driven reactionary side to a person

Something we realized is there is a component to the process we overlooked... And is a habit we are trying to break-

The only way to really break the pattern is indeed, not tying your self worth soley on the outcome... The only way we managed to get through the Ms. Pac-Man project was having to be able to throw up our hands and say "good enough" on something we were worried about

It is tough to do.. But necessary
howilingmadfox.bsky.social
LORD we fall into this trap SO often...

One of us in this system CONSTANTLY struggles with feeling inadequate and often procrastinates on stuff because of getting too consumed in the fear of failure and needing to prove their worth

... To the point they fixate HARD on if their best is good enough
blackwallmancer.bsky.social
Found this on the AO3 subreddit, and I'm about to let it change my whole life (or at least work really hard to internalize it wrt my writing).
Someone's screenshot of a two-post twitter thread, from user blue (@bluewmist):

the fastest way to kill motivation is to make your identity depend on the outcome. it's called ego involvement. when failing becomes failing as a person, your brain starts avoiding the whole thing. not because you don't care, but because you care too much.

you don't need lower standards. you need less self-worth tangled up in your goals. the work gets easier when it's not about proving who you are.
howilingmadfox.bsky.social
Lord we know that feeling all too well, we fall into the same trap too

We will become upmost experts on a piece of media or series through the power of hyperfixation making us wiki surf through just about every page

... Then we snap out of it and realize "CRAP! We had things we needed to do!"
howilingmadfox.bsky.social
The more you give of your self to a creation, the more choices YOU make on a project, be it art, music, animation, acting, so on, the more you can make even a homage feel like it's own unique thing, and not just a carbon copy

It is scary to give a bit of yourself to something... But SO worth it~
A very... VERY old, no longer even on Newgrounds old, interpretation of Tails from Planet Symma, featuring proto designs for SO many characters A re-imagining of the previous piece, this time with designs closer to the look seen in the pilot for Tails from Planet Symma

A bunch of things were shuffled around and thus barley resembles the original piece it was based on The most recent attempt at tackling the idea, this time with more finalized designs for much of the cast and being closer in spirit to the original piece

Even still, there are a bunch of choices made that diverge from it
howilingmadfox.bsky.social
We have done our fair share of homages to other works of media in the past, and even re-imagined said homages later... A re-imaging of a re-imaging if you will...

Because as time passes it is inevitable that choices we make with how to make something will be different as we explore different ideas
An art piece of the Tails from Symma Cast recreating the iconic original artwork for Super Mario Bros. for the NES, when we originally made this piece it was a more literal translation of the old cover Another take on the Tails from Planet Symma cast recreating the Super Mario Bros. NES box art, this time with more liberties taken AND featuring the designs of the cast from a cartoon short made with them doing it

A more fun topic we where pondering: What is the difference between a blatant copy of something or a reimagining of something?

It all comes down to how much of YOUR own decisions end up shaping the thing, rather then trying to strictly "fill between the lines"
howilingmadfox.bsky.social
This is why we wish mental health was taken more seriously then it is in western culture, no one bothers to teaches those who have autism, ADHD, PTSD, etc, how to properly tend to ourselves when an unwanted fixation gets activated and derails everything

We are often on our own to figure this out
howilingmadfox.bsky.social
Artists... Especially those of us who are neurodivergent, tend to subconsciously rely on hyperfixation as our main method of locking in... However it is reaction activated... And what is something that reliably provoke fixation to kick in, unfortunately?... Deliberately provoking posts...
howilingmadfox.bsky.social
We recently made a post talking about the difference between proper concentration and hyperfixation

If one wants an example of hyperfixation accidentally being compromised ... Then look no further then doomscrolling, aka the survival mind actively being on the look out for a danger to react to

The worst creative minds are often those convinced of their own infallibility. They don’t think they CAN fail and that leads them to block out anything helpful that might mean admitting a mistake.

If you made something bad & you know it, celebrate you still have the humility to tell the difference

My way of dealing with this: give yourself permission to suck.

There’s stuff I’ve written that I KNOW is great. I’ve also written shit that just didn’t work. You aren’t defined by any one work and as long as you still have the awareness to know you CAN suck, you trust you’ll know the good days too
laynemorgan.bsky.social
ever have one of those days where you're like i need genuine validation about everything in my life or i might die?
