The passage of time can be beautiful.

A semicolon is used in writing when you could have finished a sentence but chose to continue it; as a tattoo it has a similar meaning.

I got mine with very fine lines around it knowing that it would bleed out and show just how long I kept going.

A semicolon tattoo where the top dot is a paw. The whole thing is a fine line and then a solid, with the intention of it bleeding out to reach the lines.

A semicolon tattoo is a signifier used for when you have gotten close to or tried to end your life, but didn't.

The same semicolon tattoo as the previous picture, but 3 years later, showing the ink bleeding out to touch the outer lines.

Eventually the ink will bleed to the point that you can't really see what the tattoo is, just as the memories and the bad times fade.
