This is the closest we've been in 40 years to updating this system, and we need to see it through.

Visit @keeplahoused.bsky.social and keeplahoused.org for info/updates and come to the Housing Committee TOMORROW to make your voice heard.

Now, the corporate landlord lobby is funneling energy to protect profits at the expense of working people.

These lobbyists claim to champion small landlords, but they'll never mention that LA *already* allows landlords to apply for exemptions if they can’t afford the cap.
hugoforcd13.bsky.social
This isn't extreme. This isn't unreasonable. Many nearby cities already cap rent increases at 3%:

➡️ Santa Monica
➡️ West Hollywood
➡️ Cudahy
➡️ Santa Ana
➡️ LA County (base formula)
➡️ Huntington Park

Take a senior in 1986 who might pay $500 of their $600 Social Security check on rent.

With inflation and our current system - their Social Security in 2020 would be $1,430, but their rent would be $1,610.

That’s 112% of income going to rent. It's more than just unfair - it’s unsustainable.
hugoforcd13.bsky.social
Our current system was designed over 40 years ago and allows rent increases up to *10%* depending on the year and type of unit.

Even when inflation is ZERO, landlords can still increase rents by 3%! That's the opposite of stable.

LA’s Housing & Homelessness Committee is meeting TOMORROW to consider capping rent increases at 3% for every rent-stabilized tenant in the city.

This could determine the rent next year for you and and 1.1 million of your neighbors.

This is government censorship – pure and simple.

When people in power can control what you say, there’s nothing they can’t do.

I absolutely love that Colbert' got fired. His talent was even less than his ratings. I hear Jimmy Kimmel is next. Has even less talent than Colbert!
Greg Gutfeld is better than all of them combined, including the Moron on NBC who ruined the once great Tonight Show.

With the rise of fascism across the country, Los Angeles can and must be the counterpoint — showing what’s possible when working people lead.

Each of us ran our campaigns in similar ways: No fancy consultants, no corporate money — powered by the people, our communities, and an unshakable commitment to making this city more responsive to working people.

Since Ysabel’s victory in 2024, we’ve expanded unarmed crisis response and passed a Living Wage that will give tourism workers guaranteed access to affordable healthcare and $30/hr by 2028.

In 2022, Eunisses and I grew the progressive bloc, which allowed us to pass the strongest package of renter protections LA has seen in a generation – and a Sanctuary City ordinance.

In 2020, Nithya shook the political establishment, creating a blueprint to win a better future for working Angelenos.

We’re proud to announce the endorsements of Nithya Raman, Eunisses Hernandez, and Ysabel Jurado.

This outcome sends a clear message to corporate interests in LA and across the country: working people can fight and win, no matter how much money or misinformation is used to stop us.

One bright spot in our unprecedented housing crisis: Measure ULA is a new MASSIVE funding source, now starting to allocate huge sums to make housing more affordable.

📣It shouldn’t take 9 months to fix a streetlight!!

We’re investing $500k in discretionary funding to get the lights back on in time for shorter winter days, and we’ll keep fighting for a sustainable streetlighting investment so families aren’t left in the dark.

Our team brought the first day of school energy across the district! ✏️📚

Everyone deserves to feel safe and welcome coming into class.

We stopped by to bring donuts and coffee to our incredible faculty and @utlanow.bsky.social teachers — a small thank you for keeping our children safe. 🍩

Corporations think their endless resources can buy endless power and it’s despicable.

Working people deserve livable wages and massive corporations like Delta, United and Hilton who profit off their backs can afford to pay them.

‼️ICE in LA Update

Even with multiple court orders in place to stop the raids, Trump is ignoring the law to terrorize our communities and tear families apart.

If you see 🧊, call the LA Rapid Response Hotline at 1-888-624-4752.

Our hearts are with everyone impacted by last night’s horrific crash outside the Vermont nightclub in East Hollywood.

We’re deeply grateful to the first responders and bystanders who rushed to the scene to save lives. Our office is monitoring the situation closely as the investigation continues.

Permanent housing placements in LA are at record levels.

Still, thousands of people are living on the streets because we don’t have enough housing.

Every one of the 64 units in the new Alvarado & Temple Apartments means a person or family is off the street & finally has a shot at stability.

Every day, about 1,000 patients count on @ppfa.org in LA health centers for care – including birth control, STD testing and treatment, and cancer screenings.

Now, Trump’s “One Big Bill” will kick millions off Medicare and effectively defund Planned Parenthood.
