These are the moments that try writers souls. The editor on Word has gone insane and I'm stuck trying to remember how I fixed this last time. Writing in multiple languages is a struggle for Word.

Telling me that the article is more than 20 years old feels unnecessarily violent to my geriatric millennial self.

It's shaping up to be one of those days. Lots of books and lots of footnotes. 🗃️

88 years ago, yesterday, my GG Grandfather, JD, made the trek from his farm into town to show the newspaper editor his collection of so called "Native American relics". The subsequent story they wove mixes genealogy and these "relics" to tell a wild story. #genealogy

Part of my current research is looking at how elite German fighter pilots/aces were reported on during World War II. While this particular communique isn't directly relevant I know its author had fun composing it. 🗃️

Somehow I changed the editing language of my chapter from predominantly English with some German to all German. Just a few thousand errors to fix.

Steinhoff would end the War with 176 aerial victories and the Knights Cross with Oak Leaves and Swords. In April 1945, in combat near Munich he was horrifically burned in the crash of his Me-262 jet fighter. Joining the Bundeswehr in 1956 he would retire as NATO CMC in 1974.

Was in my archival files looking for a specific document and instead came across these really neat German military themed sketches from August 1939 presumably done by future Knights Cross recipient Johannes Steinhoff. 🗃️

Probably my Grandparents who lived into their 90s. The oldest picture I have though is a picture of one set of my GGG Grandparents circa 1860.

As I'm writing on what happened at Bitburg in 1985 this seemed appropriate.

When I'm poking through old newspapers for #genealogy I like to note interesting oddities. This 1900 clipping from Kansas makes me curious how obnoxious the whistling must have been for the town to initiate a curfew.

As I've gone through various newspapers for #genealogy I've come across weird ads. This one from 1897 might be the weirdest.

This is the most vexing #genealogical source I've come across in a bit. This blurb notes the death of a GG Aunt in Feb 1908, yet the town her brother visited to see her doesn't seem to exist nor does a Mary Poe that passed away in this period either.
