Since my mother died in October, I've been working on a memoir / bio about her. I'm reading old diaries, letters, 1000 pages of emails, looking at home movies...It's bringing up some stuff! #writing

This covers every Trump supporter.
Still MAGA?

New definitions of MAGA, seen on #HandsOff signs in Los Angeles: Morons Are Gutting America. Mexicans Aren't Going Anywhere.

Great jazz from the Sunny Blues atrioat Pips, La Brea and Pico. Los Angeles is a great music city. I used to come and hear Barbara Morrison, RIP.

Nobody tells stories better than Bruce Vilanch, at Book Soup in West Hollywood. I laughed until I cried. Can't wait to read the book. Can't resit to watch his Star Wars Holiday Special from 1978 either. @brucevilanch.bsky.social

My dog loves the new food from Chewy so much that she wouldn't get out of the box!

Craft la Resistance! I wore my vintage hat to the Women's March and bought a homemade T***p voodoo doll. Smaller turnout than in years past, but madder than ever. Fave sign: "They want to take us back to 1933, but we're taking them back to 1789!"

I don't like the newish trend of "Happy Monday!""Happy Tuesday!" ...
Last Thursday someone actually wished me "Happy Friday Eve!" No!
(I hope this doesn't make me a curmudgeon!)

"Free Our Feeds" is a noble and desperately needed way to take back the public square. Bluesky feels so refreshingly different from X and IG (I have never gone near TikTok).

The next time some idiot complains that white guys don't get enough breaks, have them watch tonight's opening monologue on SNL by Shane Gillis. That was painful.

I met a lot of musicians in the '80s, most of whom looked right through me. Not David Johansen. He saw me pressed up against the wall in a recording studio and brought me into the conversation. He exuded love, compassion and all-around greatness. His last decade was cruel. RIP to an angel.

I have never suffered from anxiety until the current regime. I just turned off the news notifications that have been keeping me in a constant state of agitation. I can't handle minute-by-minute updates on the dismantling of my country. I'll check in on Bluesky when I need to catch up.

After crying listening to the Army choir sing against tyranny in the face of the tyrant, this made me laugh.

From my failed musical:
You can't enjoy true success until you have failed
Couldn't find new worlds if your ship never sailed
Without scars and bruises, on your own sword impaled
If you’ve never been fired, dumped, busted or jailed –
You can't learn from your failures until you have failed.

My friend, the amazing @bethnintzel.bsky.social, wrote an eye-opening piece about her chronic pain. As someone who is sarcastically called Florence Nightingale, I sometimes need a reminder that not everyone is feeling good and doing fine. Here it is. Read & marvel: www.huffpost.com/entry/living...
I've Been In Pain For 25 Years. This Is What No One Tells You.

I just finished listening to this book, read with gusto by the author, and must share LOUDLY how great it is. Renay Mandel Corren is one of the all-time great characters and her son is hilarious in his warts-and-all yet loving portrayal. A must-read/listen!

Wait, what? Why? And what will I do without your unique voice?

“Growing into myself as a writer — and doing it in front of and for all of you — has been one of the great honors of my life,” Charles Blow writes in his final column for The New York Times. “I heard the music, and I hope that you could occasionally hear it through me.”
