This is vitally important considering the Amazon is responsible for approximately 20% of the world's total freshwater - as the largest watershed in the world - and also accounts for around 16% of the oxygen produced on land.

These decisions affect all life on earth. #COP30 #deforestation #farming

Clearly, the risks of climate change at ~3C are still terribly high & catastrophic for many, particularly with #tippingpoints in the climate, but I think the point here is that we should recognise the progress that has been made globally so far in managing these risks, such as coal phase-out #hope

Just reading this now, what a great read!

Important point by @susannahfisher.bsky.social in her new book:

"If I had been writing this book a few years ago I might have talked more about the highest-emission scenarios and painted a picture of an apocalyptic desert world of 4C or 5C.. The good news is, that is now not very likely" #optimism

Fascinating graphic from @bryantresearch.bsky.social

A massive 85% of the UK public are against killing newborn chicks with grinding or gassing.

Yes this has a prevalence of 99% in the UK food sector.

Our findings show:
🔴 Massive misalignment between public values and practice
🔴 A lack of transparency, with some practices not even properly recorded, leaving their actual prevalence unknown

Interesting research - the UK public underestimate of the percentage of animals which are factory farmed. The average estimate for all animals was 58%. While the reality is over 90%.

The recent news of signs of life on a distant planet made me wonder:

What would beings from outer space think if they saw this data about earth? 🤔

I was delighted to the visit the Rothbury estate in Northumberland, recently acquired by the Wildlife Trusts and now a focal point for Nature recovery at scale. While there I had a chat with the FT’s Madeleine Speed. Her write up here ⬇️

Let's hope simplification does not mean a reduced focus on sustainability. Agriculture and food security is reliant on ecosystems and biodiversity, and investors with a long term outlook have called for greener CAP reforms several times www.fairr.org/news-events/...
