Thanks to Steve Loheide for hosting me in wonderful Madison for the Weston Lecture! I had an awesome time catching up with old friends, making new ones, and talking science (and venting). And thanks for sharing some Wisconsin supper club culture and introducing me to the brandy old fashioned 🥃

Ended Water in the West yesterday with a watery tour of the Treasure Valley. Started at the Lucky Peak auxiliary spillway, followed the New York Canal through subdivisions/farmland to Lake Lowell, finished at Indian Creek Plaza and Tacos El Rey in Caldwell. Fun, hydrology, and tacos were had by all!

In case anyone's wondering, the shallow water equations suggest that the greater gravity doesn't, in fact, lead to huge tsunamis on Miller's Planet in Interstellar. Students in @glacierdoc.bsky.social GFD class and I explored the idea in a modeling module I developed. My nerdy self is disappointed.

Huge thanks to the USGS Idaho Water Science Center for hosting my Water in the West class this week! Students measured groundwater depths in their training well field and watch the water table respond to pumping. They also learned about the work the Water Science Center does across Idaho and nation!
