actually I just remembered she is the one who informs him about the missing kids in the first place yeah I think that one's way too contrived for her to be that stupid. you didn't want him investigating? well you literally told him. and explained to him in further expository detail.

I don't think anyone's wrong for reading it as just kind of a plot hole but I just think girlfailure. "don't let this place get to you" "he was a very clever man"... she's a little stupid and she doesn't want to admit it as do most stupid people but she's still stupid

the cop woman is funny cause when stuff related to her is revealed I don't necessarily find it to contradict her earlier behaviour but it does really make her look like she was just doing a fucking terrible job coming up with shit to say sometimes. and it makes "I tried to warn you" very pathetic
