You are so real for this. There’s too much RPG out there for me to be looking at stuff that doesn’t excite me at its lowest possible unit. Hell I bought Wulfwald off the back of a single rules sentence!

In 5th Edition they were still calling them Hobbits, so the Tolkien Estate must have sent them an 'angry missive' at some point.

The 8 by 8 grid is interesting too as I've been thinking about ways to use the I-Ching's 64 Hexagrams in an RPG context.

Cool. I've always liked the idea of matrices since seeing the spell matrices in T&T solos.

I seem to remember them being used in some war game type stuff too and mini games like Barbarian Prince.

The step die is a great idea for the sense of escalation by the way.

Good idea, and a good way to freshen things up and squeeze some more juice from old oft played modules.

Or as you said dungeons you wouldn't have the time to run or maybe wouldn't run as written.
