I have an MA in archaeology and run a blog called Living in the Longue Durée about ancient history and whatever else. This profile is mostly funny observations about history and science.

I love conspiracy-theory posts that are just like “turns out I was right” with no justification whatsoever while being extremely wrong.

People are out here making these and thinking “this is such an own; I’m so clever; how will the globeheads even respond?”

Ta-da! I’ve completed WALL-E and EVE!

Honestly building this was so therapeutic and I should do it more often. Might also rewatch the movie sometime soon if I can get logged into Disney+ on my iPad.

Yesterday for my birthday I was given a Lego set related to one of the best Pixar movies so it’s time to build with these again.

I absolutely love WALL-E by the way but I have no idea how my friend guessed that since I don’t recall talking about it with her.

My computer’s wi-fi connection pooped out again and it won’t be better until Tuesday. I do have an external disk drive though and my old CDs so I am enjoying my birthday with what really matters: woolly mammoths.

I want you all to know that if you look up “vaporwave” on Wikipedia, this is the absolutely incredible thumbnail image.

The caption is “A vaporwave-style image with Wikipedia as the main theme” and it’s made by AtikaAtikawa.

Virgin robust archaeological and historical evidence that the Great Pyramid of Giza is the tomb of the pharaoh Khufu vs. chad Jehovah’s Witnesses leaders claiming it was built by Melchizedek with dimensions numerologically predicting all of cosmic history and the End Times.

Stranded on the south side of Pangaea 252 million BC. It’s like 35 Celsius and I’m dehydrated but there’s all these little pig creatures and they’re starting to look so tasty. You can’t tell me that’s not gonna taste like a pork chop.

TIL the etymology for an internet “troll” does not derive from the gnarly creatures of Scandinavian folklore but from trolling, the fishing technique where you move lures or bait fish along behind a moving boat to provoke fish to attack them. Which makes a lot of sense really.

Two things:

The most famous image of an aurochs that you see around was illustrated by Holy Roman Empire Imperial Council member Sigismund von Herberstein in 1556 and calls people stupid for thinking it’s a bison.

If pictures are to be believed, Sigismund was an absolute unit.

Virgin typing an image prompt into generative AI vs. chad removing 10 centimeters of rusty topsoil to form lines of a combined length of 1,300 kilometers, comprising colossal images and abstract patterns in the Nazca Desert of what is now Peru between 500 BC and 500 AD.

AI bros could never.

Apparently I’m in the top .64% of Discord users, which is not a good sign.

My best friend on here was my roommate and it said to send a special message so I typed “fart” and it was a normal message, so she said “I don’t have to.” 🙃

Anyway, join the Rome server to hang out: discord.gg/AvASrxtCnj

For the Prehistoric Planet enjoyers here since apparently there are quite a few, have this blurry picture I took on the metro as it zoomed out of a station. I guess they’re doing Prehistoric Planet at the Atelier des Lumières in Paris starting December 10.

Our favorite couple came and floated over me today as I walked by their pond. Then they got to munching that delicious algae, yummy, yummy. I enjoy these two very much and I’m wondering if they’re beginning to recognize me at this point.

For various reasons related to previous conversations with friends, I regret to inform you all that my profile picture on Discord is now Oliver Cromwell in a universe where he discovers the Christmas spirit.

This is extremely cool but why do journalists covering archaeology have to do this?

“Archaeologists accidentally discovered…” HOMIE, they were excavating a 1500s Spanish adobe structure associated with the Coronado expedition. It wasn’t an accident that they found early modern material there.

For the past month or so, my morning walking route has taken me past this one pond and in it are these two swans, who are always in different parts of the pond but reliably always together. They’re my favorite couple and I love seeing them every morning. What should I call them?
