Pleased to participate in #UNOC3 General Debate: setting out IWC's contributions inc. data & assessments, capacity building (bycatch & entanglement, strandings, whale watching), species-specific conservation & more. With 26% of cetacean species under threat we need urgent action for a healthy ocean

When better to launch on BlueSky than #UNWorldOceansDay! Whales embody this year's theme of Wonder: Sustaining What Sustains Us, as ecosystem engineers, capturing carbon & transporting nutrients. But 26% of species are threatened & need help. Learn more about our science & conservation iwc.int/en/

Addressing links between fisheries & biodiversity is critical for conservation of vulnerable marine species & ecosystems & for sustainable fisheries. The SOI Dialogue with regional fishery bodies (RFB) provided an opportunity to share useful experiences.

Pens 1, 2 and 3. Happy memories. Never graduated to pen 1, which was for the real hard-core fans.

The IWC new Status of Whales pages are a fantastic resource for quickly seeing how well our cetacean friends are surviving and thriving, and really how WE are doing at learning to share and live long and well with our fellow singers of great songs on this connected ocean of a planet we all inhabit.

The IWC has just published its Status of Whales webpages. This represents a huge amount of work by the amazing group of people in our SC. Simple graphics to show whether populations are moving towards extinction or recovery, how this status has changed over a 20-year period. iwc.int/resources/me...
A picture of a webpage detailing the current status of whale stocks. The image shows a dashboard with dials that indicate the relative abundance of the whale population and its trend over the last 20 years.

I once sat two rows away from Rob Brydon in Geneva airport for a couple of hours waiting for a delayed flight back to the UK. No information on the fishing trip was forthcoming.
