If you want to risk a trip in winter, you're guaranteed snow! The same reason we only visit Alaska in summer... 😊

Well, well, well, I've only gone and created a Starter Pack. Please try to use #philately in your stamps & postal history related posts and lets try and get a stamp community going on Bluesky.

There was one ages ago, not long after Blue Sky started. Someone kindly put me in it, which was nice.

My earliest stamps from Belgium, issued for the 1920 Olympics in Antwerp, with a surcharge going to wounded soldiers from WW1. These were reissued the following year overprinted with a higher value, but no surcharge.

Well said! I enjoy every collection I put together, whether its expensive or cheap to collect; every item is a small work of art, and a little piece of history. I have learnt more about the history of 20th century Europe through stamp collecting than I ever did at school—and had more fun doing it!

LOL. Not all. I had an English teacher (a Scot, ironically) who was surprisingly accurate. I saw more than one young lad disappear in a cloud of white chalk dust...

We had prefects for that sort of thing in my day... The teachers just used to fling board dusters at inattentive students.

Yes, true but it wasn't just about oil. The growing awareness of potential oil deposits heightened the stakes and then when you add in the sovereignty dispute - Argentina claimed all ex-Spanish South Atlantic claims were theirs (long since surrendered by Spain) and their junta needed a distraction.

If you're referring to the 1982 conflict, that was about sovereignty. Oil wasn't discovered until nearly 30 years later.
