It would be beyond irony if Trump was to receive the Nobel Peace Prize; when the man who was awarded it in 1935 couldn’t travel to Oslo for the ceremony as he had been imprisoned by the Nazis.

After the Reichstag Fire he was arrested by the Nazis along with other opponents of the new regime.

In 1935 he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, but the government refused to release him to travel to Norway.

After gaining power in 1933, the Nazis began cracking down on the "internal enemies" of the party, especially the left, the Socialists and their allies. What the MAGA administration is doing is exactly the same.

Trump: "They have been very threatening to people, but we're gonna be threatening to them. Far more threatening to them than they ever were with us, and that includes the people that fund them ... we're gonna be looking for strongly at the people funding these operations."

I’d much rather watch a regional news bulletin, than be tortured by the bland reporting of BBC Breakfast News and the One Show type presenting during the day.
ianmac.bsky.social
Scrap BBC News, close the Singapore and New York bureau.

And invest in regional news, which have been underfunded since the regional politics shows got axed - and BBC local radio.
ianmac.bsky.social
Then it’s a mish-mash of Nicky Campbell similcasting his best impression of Jeremy Kyle on Radio 5 Live or mediocre presenters co-opted from BBC World News. They should just accept it’s pointless and abdicate the field to Sky News.

Stick to a lunchtime bulletin, early evening and the late evening.
ianmac.bsky.social
Despite the supposed ‘merger’ of BBC News UK and BBC World News; we still get stupefying Breakfast News on BBC1 covering the simpering human interest stories interwoven with banal political commentary.
I actually found the BBC News Channel doing a splendid job of covering real stories over brekkie.
ianmac.bsky.social
I actually switched off BBC News as they’re doing their usual inane coverage.

It’s not ‘Breaking News’ and I’m sure there’s better stories to cover than listen to Trump rambling in the White House as ‘proof of life’.

So the blame game continues.

The allegation now appears to be that the new law watered down the old definitions of what constitutes classified material and spying. As a result what might have been a prima facie case under the old 1911 Official Secrets Act is now far harder to prove.

We’ve become such a dirty country, dumping our rubbish with no regard and polluting the environment.

It wasn’t that long ago when our rivers and waterways were having a resurgence of wildlife due to them being so clean. Now they’re on the brink of collapse.

Mike Johnson said he would swear in Rep.-elect Adelita Grijalva "as soon as she wants." His office then backtracked — saying Johnson would only swear in the duly elected Grijalva once the government reopens. Grijalva won her special election more than two weeks ago.

Every week I’m alarmed this is a Labour government; some of these policies are closer to the Tory way of thinking.

Have we traveled back to the 1930s?
ianmac.bsky.social
And I’m astounded that Labour can’t see this.

To only train people in narrow workstreams risks creating a pool of potential employees who can’t move outside of the labour sector they’ve been shoehorned in to.

It’s a very Tory way of approaching employment and education. Imho.
ianmac.bsky.social
In my personal experience you need to encourage young people to think for themselves, interrogate information presented to them and embrace a positive work ethic. That’s not confined to STEM courses.
ianmac.bsky.social
If you slavishly train people in to specific disciplines you run the risk (in my opinion) that you actually restrict innovation and development.

We need a diverse workforce and society, that embraces and encourages people to explore a wide variety of industries and career paths.

“In the letter, the government said it would be “reprioritising” the funding of post-16 education in England to focus on “larger than normal maths and high-value A-level programmes to support the pipeline of students for priority sectors””. Grim.
Labour cuts funding for state school IB diplomas
The sudden decision may mean the IB program is only available in private schools

The construction of the second part of the German Nazi Auschwitz camp began in October 1941. The planned number of prisoners of Auschwitz II-Birkenau was 200,000. It was never achieved.
