I was born in Hollis, Queens before my parents and I moved, but my grandparents and extended family stayed there for another 40 years, so I was constantly in the 'old neighborhood.'

Thank you, Greg! I hope folks find the conversation as stimulating as I did.

Yesterday I was again on Political Pulse in Rochester. We discussed freedom of speech, Attorney General Bondi’s remarks about prosecuting “hate speech” and the broader question of inflammatory rhetoric in the political arena, for which I drew on my research. Enjoy! foxrochester.com/news/good-da...

🚨WE HAVE A FLIP TO REPORT🚨

Democrat Catelin Drey has FLIPPED Iowa State Senate Seat 1 tonight!

And in doing so, Democrats have ended the GOP Supermajority in the Iowa State Legislature!

This was a Trump +11 district, and the Democrat is ahead by 9 points!

A 20 point swing!

Democrats have drifted from Obama’s unifying vision of America—and paid the price. I argue in this piece for the Progressive Policy Institute that they must reclaim Obama’s inclusive, aspirational message that built a multiracial coalition and won twice. www.progressivepolicy.org/how-democrat...

"What’s really at issue here is whether Trump can simply pull 'emergencies' out of his rear to assume dictatorial powers for himself. The court is saying, 'No, you can’t.' Trump’s rant basically says: 'Yes, I can.'"
gregsargent.bsky.social
This is striking. We now have two Trump-appointed judges directly knocking down Trump's power to simply create emergencies by decree and then assuming extraordinarily sweeping powers on that basis.

This is the thing to watch. It's key to their dictatorial project.

I’m so glad we’re relitigating Biden’s competency while an amphibian-brained degenerate releases a steady ooze of vile slime out of the White House.

say it again:

4 million people work in higher ed, the largest employer in 10 states, second largest employer in 10 more, and in 60 of the 100 biggest cities

ROI for NIH and NSF for local economies is conservatively 4x, often close to 10x

demolishing higher education is economic sabotage

There is a false dichotomy drawn between "the ivory tower" and "the real world," and I'm here to report that in a post-industrial society, your real-world economy absolutely hinges on the university.

University towns are factory towns. Universities drive economic activity, not the other way around.

Every book published in the United States is sent to the Library of Congress. Also, if you are under 16 you cannot use the reading room or order books.

Reporter: The president fired the Librarian of Congress. Why?

Leavitt: There were quite concerning things she had done at the Library of Congress in the pursuit of DEI and putting inappropriate books in the library for children.

This is a classic “wedge issue,” uniting one party and dividing the other. If Dems press hard enough and people understand the horror of what Republicans are attempting, they can be beaten.

The more attention it gets, the better the chances of stopping it:

Their plans are horrific, but the politics are on Democrats' side.

Trumpism is actually not about restoring good manufacturing jobs. Bringing mass scale toy manufacturing to the US (brutal factory jobs) while gutting unions/regulations (also core ideological commitments of Trumpism) is a recipe for drudgery and subjugation.

Don't overlook this: Trump is leaving Abrego Garcia to rot in a foreign gulag even though the admin can always bring him back and *retry him for deportation in a lawful way.* That they won't do this shows their case against him is nonsense.

New piece from me:

Trump’s Horrifying Removal of Man in “Error” Takes an Even Darker Turn
The Trump administration could allow Kilmar Abrego Garcia back into the U.S. and try to deport him through proper channels. So why won’t it even do that?
