In 2022, at the Oireachtas Justice Committee, I BIKE Dublin got assurances from the Gardaí that they supported camera enforcement of red lights and bus/bike lanes.

Three years later we *might* be getting one camera at one junction in the city.

It's not good enough.

“Regrettable”
ibike.ie
10 people are killed or seriously injured every week while walking or cycling in Irish roads .

An 18 month delay will see 780 deaths and serious injuries. We know that we could prevent at least 200 of those by reducing speed limits but this government refuses to act.

The response from the Minister's representative at yesterday's meeting in Leinster House was shocking.

It's very clear that this government is not taking road safety seriously and people will die as a result.

Jason Cullen from the Dublin Commuter Coalition said a response from a staff member from the Junior Transport Minister, Sean Canney's office, during that presentation, was alarming.

"The clear indication that we got from the Minister's staff member there, was that it would be at least 18 months before we see any form of instruction to local county councils.

'When I pointed out to him that within that time 20 to 30 cyclists will probably have been killed on our roads due to the current trends that we're seeing, the response from him was that it is 'regrettable' that that will happen.

"It really took my breath away."

We are delighted to support #Love30 who are calling on the Oireachtas and every Local Authority to make 30 km/h the default speed limit in built-up areas, but particularly in town centres, residential estates, and in the vicinity of schools and places of public assembly.

WexBUG were happy to participate in the rally for safer roads this morning. The Love 30 Campaign advocates for a standard urban speed limit of 30kph. Research shows that this will reduce road deaths and injuries. Time for the promises of action on road safety to be prioritised. #Love30

Thank you to everyone who turned up today and to all the TDs and Senators who took the time to listen to us this morning.

Unfortunately, no one from the government joined us and the response from the Minister's representative was underwhelming.

We will continue the fight for safer roads for all.

Hey Niels, the front has the logo without the @ and the rear has the @ibikedub handle on it. DM if you would like a file of the logo if you wanted to do a bespoke one yourself with a local t-shirt printer if that helps.

Ciarán Ferrie calls out the government for its inaction on implementing speed limit reform in today's @irishexaminer.bsky.social

One in every three road deaths this year has been a person walking, cycling, or scooting.

Half of those killed were over the age of 60.

Four were children.
