From the bad place. Guess we'll see how this all turns out.
I buy the first line. The second? Having to drive 10 minutes farther doesn't exactly make a cookie-cutter fast food burger more appealing to me.

What victory, Adam? You were in congress. When has a shutdown ever resulted in the Majority ceding any legislative wins to the minority party?

Or should Dems have just kept the government shut down indefinitely?

I would love these polls to the ask open-ended follow-up questions so we'd know what respondents think Dems should do that they aren't. Just to get an idea of what people think its even possible for the minority party to do.

Defunding*

Final thought: I know most of you aren't upset that Dems didn't get the GOP to fix the ACA credits - what you really wanted was defending ICE or whatever. But that was never, ever on the table. So what you wanted was an indefinite shutdown, whoch was also never, ever on the table.

There will be an ACA tax credit vote. Its very likely that the GOP will vote no. When that happens, I beg you people to yell as loudly about Republicans actively voting to raise insurance premiums by 500% as you are now about literally anything Dems do that you don't like.

Given that, the only alternate seems to be Dems open the government, or the government stays closed indefinitely.

Which option would you choose?
November 10, 2025 at 11:53 AM
Depends on whether the loudest voices on the left blame Republicans who vote to let them expire, or predictably blame Democrats who vote to extend them.

Or - just spitballing here - saying your electric car company will have "fully self-driving cars" in the next 12 months for a decade.

Alex, how much porn do you watch in a typical week?
November 9, 2025 at 1:24 AM
Not everyone in America are hyper-partisans. Its not about changing Republicans minds. Its about breaking through the noise so people who get their news on facebook know the GOP is responsible for the shutdown. Its about energizing non-voters.

My God you people are dense.

Yes, they knew the offer would be rejected. But they couldn't *make* the offer unless they had the votes lines to on the off chance Republica s said yes.

Fucking hell, you guys.

No, they didn't.

Damn, why don't we have an edit button yet?
November 7, 2025 at 9:53 PM
I disagree slightly. It may not move the "chabge people's politucal beliefs" needle, but it can move the "holy fuck i have to get off my ass and vote against this" needle.

Yeah, I'm playing catch-up
November 7, 2025 at 9:33 PM
If the GOP goes for it, a 1-year extension would put ACA premium increases front-and-center for midterm campaign season. Pretty smart, IMO.
