From the bad place. Guess we'll see how this all turns out.
Pinned
I've finally figured this place out. Dems are feckless do-nothings who rely on interviews, letters, and performative DOA bills so they don't have to fight. Progressives are trailblazers who use interviews and social media to talk to the masses, and file messaging bills so ppl know they're fighting.

The need for faux revolutionaries to kill Dems at every turn is disgusting and wrong. They pull off solid wins, and the idiots STILL trash them. THIS tactic is EXACTLY what we wanted, and they call it a "cave"???

FYI *this* is what a 🤖 network showing up in a comment feed w/a hot take that gets a bunch of “likes” to make it look like popular consensus looks like.

The account that commented on Ebony’s post doesn’t have tons of followers yet 18 accounts she isn’t mutuals with noticed their comment & liked it?

This is correct, but there are a lot of people On Here who have made a living claiming that Dems always lose and they simply cannot allow Dems to win, even if they have to lie and say it didn't happen.
People are reading this way wrong. Schumer detached DHS from the other five bills in return for a two week CR on the DHS bill. Now Democrats can make demands on DHS spending without having to shut down agencies covered in the other five bills. They have way more leverage to get real concessions.
People just going out here saying the literal opposite of what happened. Thune caved! Thune did! This is a cave by Thune and Senate Republicans, any possible way you cut it.

Smol political explainer. The reason big names clear the field for primaries is MUCH more about how miserable it is to run for office knowing you will probably lose than about party insiders twisting arms. I speak from personal experience. I have been recruited to run for higher office a lot. 1/?

Senate Dems have won a chance to negotiate. We won't know the outcome until it's over; expect false rumors. And they're still facing unified GOP gov't.

They will listen to party actors/constituents about what to ask for - so do that! - but there's another side too and they have more votes.

Democrats spanning from Jim McGovern to Seth Moulton have publicly called for abolishing ICE and there are clearly Dem votes for a shutdown so naturally "why aren't Dems saying anything?" remains the easiest way for low-effort clout chasers that don't pay attention to anything to rack up RTs

No vote tonight on the funding deal because — and I am not making this up — Lindsey Graham was insisting on undoing this so he can personally enrich himself to the tune of millions in taxpayer dollars
Unanimous vote in the House to repeal provision letting Senators sue the US over the Jan 6 probe and get millions of dollars

Genuinely endearing how much the two chambers hate each other. A true Legolas/Gimli meme for House members against their true enemy, the Senate

(will be part of the minibus)

Graham wants to keep his multimillion dollar taxpayer payout
NO SENATE VOTE TONIGHT

Couldn’t get all senators to allow a speedy vote. Schumer tells reporters Lindsey Graham is blocking it. “That’s the holdup,” Schumer tells reporters. Graham wants to keep a provision letting him sue to pocket $500,000 over J6 phone records seized.

And with that, the Senate is gone. Reconvenes tomorrow at 11a. Government funding deal hangs in the balance. Shutdown hits tomorrow at midnight.

<<Taps sign>> abolishing ICE is off the table for now, so the immediate the goal is harm mitigation.

Harm mitigation is good, even if it comes in banal forms like tying up ICE with red tape.
"Whoops sorry guys, we've upped your training requirements to 30 months. You'll have to pay your recruits full salary during that time too. We're not going to budget any money for that but you can draw from the already allocated money in the BBB."
The job right now isn't to advocate for more training, or body cams or QR codes or whatever because those things will be effective in their own right. It's to advocate for those things because it will bleed ICE's slush-fund white.

Lindsey Graham wants to be able to steal $500k from taxpayers so now half the government might shut down.

Bsky: "Do Something!"

Dems do something.

Bsky: "Not like that!"

Dems: "okay, what do you want us to do?"

Bsky: "Get rid of Trump right now!!"

Dems: "Okay, but we can't. We're the minority. We dont have the votes."

Bsky: "Feckless do-nothing nazi-lite vichy collaborators!!!!!"
The Senate Dems successfully got Homeland Security separated out from the rest of the budget bills to avert a shutdown while negotiating terms and everyone hates them.

“Please don’t do stuff you that’s already illegal. Please.”

Not the sentence after this one that explains why Jeffries wants this demand included, though. Can't have people getting the wrong impression that Jeffries might know what he's doing, or that the folks who knee-jerk scream at him simply lack all impulse control.
If there's ever a history museum dedicated to this time period make sure this sentence gets displayed there

Democrats have to battle an information environment where people who are nominally on their side lie about them just as much as their enemies. This party has its faults but you’re not going to improve it or the country by being supremely dishonest about it and making it harder for it to win.
