IMO the weird exception some supposed leftists seem to make for condemning-the-theft-of-labor-except-art-lol-steal-that-shit is just a weird intersection with puritan "if you enjoy yourself, it's not a real job" brainworms.

"fun" job = member of the leisure class (ROFL) = fair game. Somehow.
Honestly, people calling creators the "petite bourgeoisie" makes me want to snap.

We're working folk. And we work really hard. For next to nothing.

We're not lounging around eating bonbons. We're trying to figure out how we're going to be able to pay rent next month.

Like, yeah, maybe don’t pirate books. It takes money out of the hands of starving writers and reveals you as a dickweed.

I'm extremely proud of the fact that the hardcover of Dreyer's English remains in print nearly seven years after it went on sale, and if you'd like signed copies (they make great holiday gifts!) and to support a local bookstore, head to the Signed Copies tab here:

DragonDiaries: So, this whole werewolf thing; isn’t the hair supposed to go away in the morning? Because, I had to light my whole head on fire to get rid of it. At least, dragons are fireproof.

I once asked a bookseller at a large indie store how many people would have to buy a book for it to get the attention of the store buyer and cause an additional order and they said: Three.
I see some book piracy discourse, and, to make a positive argument in favor of buying books, your marginal ability to influence what books get published and support the careers of writers you like is massive compared to most other forms of media.

Have a friend who recently had to take down 5 dead oak trees and is now bringing me a truckload of seasoned split oak once or twice a week because he doesn’t have a fireplace. Looking like 3-5 full cords. I am old enough to have lived through log heating at the family farm, so I feel wood wealthy

Oh, I love this. A new species of sea anemone was discovered recently that parks itself on top of a hermit crab shell like a hat. It seems to feed partly off the crab's faeces, but it also excretes a hard shell that extends the crab's home. In return, it's carried around the seafloor like a king.

Morning arrived like the reign of Emperor Wile E Coyote—first of his name. “This ACME justice department kit is what I need to finally take down all those road runners…so many road runners, and they’re all laughing at me. I can hear them in my sleeeep! Meep! Meep meep meep! Make it stop!”

I wish legacy media hadn’t decided to stop covering Tim Walz talking about how deeply weird these people are, because wooo-boy, they are super not normal. And, yes, he did keep hitting it—his later speeches are easy enough to find–legacy media just decided it was no longer a thing in their coverage.

DragonDiaries: Stupid werewolf bites. They should be a small breaded snack sold in large boxes at the dragon market. Not things that transform you. Whole head went fuzzy this time. Sigh.
