Understandable, I think what's being done on the health side of things is even worse than the climate side. Hopefully similar positive trends are coming there too, and if not then we'll just have to weather the storm and rebuild. We did it once, it can be done again.

It matters to the scientists that work there, and it makes it both easier to repair these institutions in the near future and harder for more damage to be done now. Not a perfect solution, but a win is a win.

To add onto the identity protection, it also gives the illusion of them being victims of violence, as if "antifa" or whoever would punish them if they could only find out who they are, as if they're in danger from the same public they claim to be protecting.
