I'm not saying we won anything with that argument. The fight for video game preservation is ongoing. But typically (and whether they recognize they're doing it for this reason or not) I think people who defend games as art are trying to legitimize it for the rights it could gain in the process.

Game corporations wanted this so they could expand their market and develop cultural prestige, as you point out.

But I think a lot of consumers still make this argument, not to support that corporate effort necessarily, but to actually get games preserved like art is typically preserved.

From my perspective, people were just eager to 'legitimize' the medium, both on the corporate and consumer side. They wanted it to be on the level of film, which is accepted as both a product and an artistic statement or expression.

I couldn’t figure out how to do this, but maybe the website hadn’t updated for me when I tried.

I also have to think of what I’d make the PS3 Remaster cover look like, in order to distinguish them.

Maybe an ICO remake would require the raw audio files (if they are still in the hands of Ueda) to be sent to a new project, where they could eventually be uncovered.

Either that, or a very unorthodox 25th anniversary gift, are the only ways I could predict the isolated VA performances reaching us.

I have gotten many of the vocal deliveries pretty isolated. But the extraction process is never going to be perfect. Fragments of music may remain and aspects of the delivery may be removed. If I could, I would much rather analyze the raw files. But the chances that we'll ever hear them are slim.

Individual voice lines such as Ico's call and Yorda's hints are. But when it comes to cutscene dialogue, it's always going to be accompanied by the scene's sound effects, stage ambience, and music.

Also this remake definitely plays into the 'realistic graphics' trend and people often talk about how that affected the skybox and overall atmosphere. Not everyone was a fan of that either.

It's a lot of nitpicking to some. Casual fans will never notice these changes, and every main mechanic functions just as it should.

But there is a whole saying about straws and camel's backs. Enough little changes can dampen an experience, it's just a matter of noticing them.

Shadow of the Colossus PS4 remake is somewhat contentious within the fan community. Those who dig into the PS2 game’s secrets often focus on fine details found within the world, animations, and creature designs. Unnecessary deviations and missing features become easy to spot with this mindset.

Not quite. This was the painting they directly lifted the composition from:
bsky.app/profile/icos...
I've mentioned it before, although I have a new addendum to add:

The painting that ICO's Japanese cover is based on, "Tropique du Cancer", was painted by Ramsès Younan, who was taking clear inspiration from Giorgio de Chirico and other surrealist-esque painters of the era, such as Salvador Dalí.

ICO Trivia #19:
On the cover of the Japanese Manual, the head of a ram is hidden among the foliage of the border, at center top and bottom.

With both instances cropped, you can only see the full image by editing them together. The PS3 manual further cropped the image, making it even harder to see.

このレイアウトは 1999 年頃のものですよね? この部屋の接続配置は記憶だけに基づいたものですか?

Hope you enjoy the rest of the experience, now that it’s opened up to you!

They could have a stretched trapezoidal shape, rather than triangular ones.
