It’s obvious that *before this week* Trump had never heard about Venezuela nationalizing its oil industry (in 1976!) but now it’s a casus belli in a shitshow that makes the 2002-03 run-up to invading Iraq look like a model of planning, preparation, and logic.
Trump on Venezuela: "Getting land, oil rights, whatever we had -- they took it away because we had a president that maybe wasn't watching. But they're not gonna do that. We want it back. They took our oil rights. We had a lot of oil there. They threw our companies out. And we want it back."

It would later reflect well on European governments to have at least tried to prevent Trump from the madness of a war against Venezuela!

Es würde den europäischen Regierungen später mal gut zu Gesicht stehen, zumindest versucht zu haben, Trump vom Wahnsinn eines Krieges gegen Venezuela abzuhalten!

Journalists’ arrests chill their rights and abruptly end their reporting, removing them from newsworthy events.

The public is left less informed as a result.
In 2025, @pressfreedomtracker.us documented at least 32 instances in which journalists were detained or charged — just for doing their jobs.

Nearly 90% of them occurred while journalists were covering demonstrations.
