Yes, but the UK system gets you to study a broad range of subjects in greater depth before university than the US does. I'm reminded of people I know who've gone to the US to study humanities and found the work was at A-level or even GCSE level standard in the first year.

Yes and it’s horrific. I mean we used to be weird in the ‘eccentric uncle who wrote a book on fly fishing and wears a hat’ way but now we are weird in the ‘racist uncle with a collection of Nazi hats’ way.

Actually the WI, which has been explicitly trans inclusive for 40 odd years now, is being forced to change that by people wanting to exclude trans people. It’s not about making a space for women, it’s about excluding trans people.

I suppose the argument is if we don’t spend the money Russia wins and we get war a couple of years later. It’s worth the risk in that regard.

Ah, I see what you mean. I suspect the point is that if we get to a point where we want to do business with Russia it will probably have been worth spending the money.

agreement that the funds would not be unfrozen unless the Russians pay reparations, in which case the people who's assets were frozen get their money back. If Russia doesn't pay they don't get it. Isn't the whole thing supposed to be a way out of the problem you point out?/end

I feel like one of us (probably me) is misunderstanding some of this. It looks to me like the EU has frozen assets belonging to Russians and is going to use them to fund Ukraine. The concern with that is if the decision is made to unfreeze the assets and the EU is left owing money. This is an/1
