This week my English 9 students read “Lamb to the Slaughter by Roald Dahl; they used the Building Thinking Classrooms Instructional Framework to deepen their critical analysis of the text. My students answered Text Dependent Questions at whiteboards, $ I was impressed by their thoughtful responses

Another poem that I enjoy teaching to 9th graders is “Invictus” by William Ernest Henley. The theme is approachable for all learners & depending on skill level, students provide various levels of analysis. This poem is useful for exploring word choice, tone, theme, connotation & author’s purpose.

What poems do you ❤️ teaching in your classroom that students both love and analyze well?

“Crossing the Bar” by Alfred Lord Tennyson is a poem that made my students feel like English scholars after analyzing. I linked the #poetry analysis document.

Spent the afternoon polishing my presentation for #VASCD24. I’m presenting on Wednesday, and I can’t wait to discuss the importance of leveraging your specialist team. Too often we work in isolation. When specialists collaborate, we are able to better support the needs of teachers and students.
