I'm watching Jeff Gerstmann play and someone said, "I know it's a cliche, but [cliche]." Dude, then why waste players' time with such creative bankruptcy? Legit infuriates me as someone expected to punch up bad material, especially seeing the problems this game has with its UI and tutorial writing.

People were always going to come it primarily for the mechanics and physics hijinks and if you're just going to begrudgingly put in mediocre attempts at wit to appear polished, then it's just a distraction that also constrains a likely underappreciated writer whose skills are better spent elsewhere.

It's not what'll ultimately gonna make or break that game's success, but as someone who writes for games, god damn do I hate the writing in that new Skate, dude. Would legit be less painful if they took out the attempts at """personality""" and just made it as sterile as every other big EA product.

Just utterly baffling that for as much time, effort, and money clearly went into doing the Japanese dubbing and localization right, nobody got the memo that the same culture war bozos as always were gonna come out of the woodwork and stir shit to seek attention in the exact manner they did. 🤷

Well, I see the post-mortem for Shadows didn't involve any of Ubisoft leadership learning they hilariously overreacted to said pushback here in Japan and that none of them got the message it was like five uyoku dumbasses making themselves look like a bigger mob than they actually were. Great job. 🥴

when i tried to apply to do freelance work on shounen jump years ago as a side hustle, they never responded to my application and i realize now it's because those editors are all cowards afraid to hear the truth. but 12 years of translation experience can't be wrong and i'm gonna prove it!!! 😤

I've been using memoQ to loc most games for the past ten years and it's really cool how that whole time on every computer I've installed it to, a basic ctrl+f search has always caused a memory leak that inevitably causes it to slow to a crawl. Good shit from a program a lot of livelihoods depend on.

In fact, in this current climate, I'm not even entirely confident it'll have all that smooth of an existence on Steam. That it has a page mostly tells me that they've gotten lucky with whatever parts of the game Valve has reviewed. I don't think it'd take all that much for it to get pulled down...

If a western publisher approached me and asked if LoveR would be a good game to capitalize on foreign interest in dating sims, I would tell them the fact they're even asking means they don't know the game well enough and to be prepared to edit the game substantially to make ratings boards happy.

Also, while nothing is definitive, the fact that I can't find any English eShop page or ESRB listing and that Steam only lists a CERO rating tells me Dragami Games either ran into problems getting ESRB clearance or predicted they would and chose not to submit, to which I can only say... MM-HM. 😒

Went like the past two months or however long it's been completely forgetting that LoveR is coming out for a bafflingly third god damn time until I found it plastered on the homepage of a Japanese game shop just now and the rest of my entire October is ruined. Somebody save this genre from itself. 😭

Just want to say that DLsite did not launch its own payment processor, Minna no Ginko is a fairly new alternative that's slowly getting picked up by other sites including pixiv.

Anyway, again, Windows port of Asuka Kenzan: fantastic Deck game and I believe there's an item name translation patch so it's nominally playable for series fans. Definitely the most fun I've had with a Shiren outside 6 and a reminder of just how great the Deck often is for retro Japanese PC games. 😌

Went back to playing Asuka Kenzan (DC Shiren) because I'm a broken man who forgot how to play any other games and the monster raising is still cool as hell. Love taking an evolved Mamel (the series' DQ Slime equivalent goober) into a boss battle where it helps clean house in a matter of seconds. 😌

Listen, I love Estelle with all my heart. It was a genuine career highlight getting to write what snippets of her dialogue I did for Reverie several years ago.

But there's only one Falcom lady who's the perfect embodiment of Pulpy Fantasy Cover Woman and, tragically, it is not her. I'm sorry. 😔

Just give me several tens of thousands of dollars as an advance and I'll churn out a 300-page treatise on why Brandish is the sickest fucking video game and Dela Delon is Falcom's best character.

I'm just saying, if you want someone to write a halfway respectable book on Japanese game history that has the potential to actually be educational and ideally not leave anybody involved with egg on their face by the end for any number of reasons, I'm right here and could always use the money lol
