It just happens to be the general trend. If high turnout helped the right they wouldn't be so gung-ho about suppression though. I think 2024 was actually an exception, where high voter turnout still went right, but there are some statistical red flags that I won't discuss here since it is off topic.

If the end goal wasn't voter suppression. But that is the end goal. I'm with you on this, I think voter ID laws are bullshit, and do not prevent or significantly impact fraud. Voter suppression has been a primary tool of the right for a long time though, because high turnout tends to go left.

brings us back to why this is all actually really fucking stupid, we already have Real ID. Older peeps will remember when they made us switch over to that. Real ID is supposed to be more secure, and requires a birth certificate or similar doc to get one to begin with. It should be enough.
