It has been so very long since anyone in our government was worthy of pride. This moment will matter for a very very long time.

Goal of the week: figure out how to only work three days a week. I’ve been at four for over a decade. Three sounds good.

People ask how I did it all the time. Here’s the secret: You block it out on your calendar.

That’s it. That’s the secret.

When Meta blocked me from commenting or posting on Threads and commenting on Insta women got the message out other ways.

Waking up to a viral quote is wild.

What do you do when you say something clever/interesting/funny in a comment thread that no one will really see? Do you post it again as its own post? Is that immediately weird? My need for more public witnessing of my pithy wit is bigger than I thought. I'll see myself out.

While we argued about what can and should be said or not said, how to care about all the right things correctly, and what was supposed to matter most when everything matters SO MUCH, the ignorant, hateful, nationalistic masses laughed at our pretense... illanaburk.substack.com/p/i-dont-rea...

I'm so glad that in a city where more than a hundred thousand people are under evacuation order and thousands have lost their homes that the news has made sure we all know exactly where Ben Affleck is at all times. Phew.

I am always amazed when people who live in regions where there are entire seasons and areas named after natural disasters (hello 'Tornado Alley') are gobsmacked that people would choose to live in beautiful cultural centers where disasters like LA happen once in a lifetime.

In case anyone was wondering what the FTIC was for; without it, when banks go under, your money goes with it.

So they literally want to create pathway where banks face zero repercussions for stealing from average people.

What could go wrong?
The FDIC is funded through fees assessed to banks based on the level of risk they pose. Abolishing it would save the federal government $0, but it would save banks a boatload. Only downside, of course, is the risk that those banks go belly up and take regular people's money with them. No biggie.

Stopped posting on Twitter a decade ago = 2k+ followers. Stopped posting on TikTok two months ago = 1k+ followers. Post regularly on Instagram for ten years? 423 followers. I have no idea what to make of that.

I own a business and I work four days a week and take December mostly off (and have for more than a decade). Just in case someone might like to know that that's totally doable. When people ask how I pulled that off, my answer is: I just stopped working Fridays. And no one noticed. The end.

@zapier-ai.bsky.social has decided to change their refund policy to, "Sorry, we don't do refunds under any circumstances." I missed canceling by two days because the singular email reminder they sent went to my spam folder. Oh, and the price went up - for a service I no longer use. Nice.

How does one become a 'philosopher'? Like, do you just wake up one day and are like, "I have philosophies now. So I'm a philosopher."? I think about this in the shower a lot.
