Yes. In their own dominionist terms "God" has called on them and demanded of them that they defeat the "opponents" of Christ (a kind of avenging warrior king/deity). Even erstwhile Jewish allies don't fit into the final picture.

The Alastair Sim version was on annually late on Christmas Eve on the local station where I grew up so I watched it nearly every year. It terrified me as a child, but that release of tension when Sim wakes up renewed is still the best to me.

On a more mundane level, it took me into adulthood to understand that this applies to the basic people sitting around you in the pews on a Sunday morning, too. Turns out that a lot were not in fact "one of the good ones." That's long in the past, though.
