You can see me sneak by one of those in the video before I get into the "cheese" position, but I'm not gonna pretend I had that locked in. Just a bit of luck on that one. 😅

It doesn't actually have to be done in the same where you pick up the Gold Hemmed Set mind you, but you do have to run all the way back there first if you didn't get it right the first time.
Ceaseless needs to rip his arm out from the side of his body, and that only happens if you go there.

He then grabs onto the environment and can no longer attack because he's dangling above a pit and can only hold on for dear life. Then it only takes 5 hits to break his grip and make him fall, instantly killing him.

In the same run where you go all the way to the altar to pick up the Gold Hemmed Set, run all the way back to the fog gate. Ceaseless has a unique event/ animation where he leaps towards you (because you're beyond a cliff's ledge so he can no longer walk towards you)...

It comes down to managing how you get in there. In the vid you can see I almost got hit by a fire blast. He might also do an arm slam from a diff angle that hits you running in. But get past that & allow his AI to react to you being in the right place *before* he decides what to do; He's screwed. :)

To make the hallway strat work, you want him to be aggro'd from as soon as you enter the boss fog, so his arm stays fused shut. Once you're in position in the hallway, he is scripted to walk to that exact spot and can only do this one tentacle slam over and over and will never do anything else.

The two easy kill methods are split to opposite ends of Ceaseless' current state. Did you go all the way to the item corpse and get Ceaseless to detach his arm from being fused to the side of his body?
If the answer is yes, you can do the popular easy kill method, but the hallway strat won't work.

Same! I remember way back when the easy kill strategy started going "viral" and lots of people were learning about it for the first time (myself included), I didn't bother trying it for a while since I already had this method locked in and didn't think I needed anything else.

It doesn't make the fight "GOOD", mind you. This other strat is a boring slog without high damage. But the point is that if you asked me to beat Ceaseless SL1 without the easy kill method, I wouldn't sweat it because there was ALWAYS another option for kicking his ass that wasn't hard at all.

Meanwhile, a more obvious solution in using the environment to your advantage was also rewarded. I think people didn't feel compelled to experiment with the hallway as much as they probably should've, but this solution always seemed pretty clear to me coming from Demon's Souls.

While it's understandable how this got overshadowed by the main easy kill strategy, it feels like virtually everyone talks about the fight like you're forced into a hard/bad fight if you can't figure out a pretty hard-to-solve trick that practically everyone only learns about by word of mouth...

Woah you weren't kidding. Not that I doubted your ability to Google search "Into the fire" humphrey bogart video game", but like, that doesn't even pull up this image you found.
This didn't get discoursed in the internet era *at all*, did it?

There's also an actual physical candle in there as well. So it's like an entire candle gets glued to the top of your head when you dunk it in there... I guess.

Oh I should add that just the wick part disappears from view entirely when looked at from the backside. Which is probably why a lot of ppl might not notice it at all. If you're walking forward and don't have the camera at a weird angle, you won't see it.
But look at the front of your character...

It's also extremely funny thinking about how simply dunking your head into wax just fully turns your head into an actual candle for a while. Where does the wick come from?? How does the resulting candle structure make any sense??
