I'm not 100% sure if they did use AI for this model but I can say it's topology isn't great. There are a lot of auto (non-ai) retopology scripts out there that's just terrible. If they made the super hi poly first then auto retopologized it, you could get this which is not made to be animated.

Tried my hand at #pixelart with aseprite. It's honestly pretty fun! It's both like hard to do and easy at the same time. Like way different from 3d! #sonic

I rigged the Agumon to initially be a mod smash bros but I got super busy I kinda forgot to do the rest of the animations.
