That's fascinating. I thought that changing hardware during the console's lifecycle was exclusively a recent thing outside of handhelds.

It baffles me how something so successful can be so completely uninfluential. The only reason I know that the third part exists is the random FIRE AND ASS that I hear as I try to fall asleep while listening to YouTube.

I feel really bad about the games I drop, and I reassure that I'll get back to them, but that barely ever happens. So you're not alone in this, @shenpai.gay , and I hope you can find a solution that makes you happy - whatever that may be.

I have the same issue as a fella with unmedicated, undiagnosable ADHD due to overlapping medication. I start (streaming) a game and if I don't finish it in like 2-4 weeks, I drop it for something more in line with my mood / current obsession. And this is with me regularly caffeinated.

I think the game lends itself to trial and error runs quite well with a clear event log for introspection. Sure, you die all the time, but you get to know what went wrong before you try again.

I like to play Rimworld with Randy Random for extra emergent gameplay. One day you get a psychic wave making all your men more chill, some other you get 30 rabid squirrels out for blood. New events can change your priorities a fair bit.

I had an ancient GBC and it booted after a similar amount of time. I think 15ish years is at the very end of the lithium battery lifespan. So serendipity or better battery quality, who really knows?

One thing that has always baffled me is the 3DS battery life. It can be unused for over 3 months after a full charge and it still holds enough charge for the battery indicator to not change from full.
As much as I dislike Nintendo, they have some neat tricks for their hardware and firmware.

As much as I do enjoy procgen in some games (Dwarf Fortress is a marvel of procgen and simulation), I really wish more indies did handcrafted map and world design. It's a lot of effort, absolutely, but it's where the real artistry shows.
