This feels incredibly disingenuous given that Beshear has actively campaigned against this amendment. Deceptive, transparent attempt to masquerade as a progressive cause.
Political mailer with the following text: Give Governor Beshear and our legislature the tools to pioneer a modern education system. When kentucky's constitution was ratified, schools didn't have electricity, busses, or computers. Our constitution must reflect the world we live in and provide for a modern, innovative education system. It's time to give students more opportunities to achieve and succeed. It's time to empower our families to find the right school for their child. It's time to bring kentucky's schools into the 21st century. It's time to vote yes in amendment 2 and out Kentucky on a level playing field with neighboring states. The mailer also includes the text of the proposed amendment as it would appear on the ballot with a "yes" bubble filled in. Amendment to the Kentucky Constitution. It is proposed that a new section be added to the constitution of Kentucky to read as follows: the general assembly may provide financial support for the education of students outside the system of common schools. The general assembly may exercise this authority by law, sections 59, 60, 171, 183, 184, 186, and 189 of this constition notwithstanding. The mailer includes a graphic of neighboring states to note that neighboring states have school choice opportunities and Kentucky has no school choice opportunities. The "vote yes on 2" logo appears at the bottom with the date of the election and a link to Lear more at kentuckystudents.org Text of the mailer reads: We need to update Kentucky's constition because moms deserve a choice in education. When kentucky's constitution was ratified in 1891: Televisions hadn't been invented. Homes didn't have electricity. Henry Ford's Model T hadn't rolled off the assembly line. Women weren't allowed to vote. 1891 was a long time ago. Women have a voice now. Let's update our constitution so that our elected officials can modernize our education system.
