In which, on the occasion of my 3-year migration anniversary and the release of Mastodon 4.5, I assemble all my arguments as to why Mastodon is great and why anyone else on a service that’s becoming less fun/safe/useful should migrate to Mastodon and do it now, in late 2025 […]

It’s particularly unacceptable to laugh as a woman. I am not just accused of laughing, I am “giggling”, or “hysterically laughing”.
Ah well.

PS: honestly, what should one do but laugh in these times.

and to be honest I found various acts of conformity to be both startlingly foreign and impressively intimidating. A guy setting a trash can on fire is one guy feeling feisty. but a thousand strangers sitting down in neat rows apropos of nothing is a veiled threat.

Today at 13:30 in Switzerland, the emergency sirens will be tested. This old fashioned custom is practiced once a year on the first Wednesday of February. As usual, the alarm sound will be created the old fashioned way

For 10 years, a family member of two Yemenis killed in a US drone strike in 2012 - relayed, as they usually are via Ramstein air base in Germany - has been suing the German state over these attacks.
Tomorrow the German constitutional court hears the case again.

someone has scaled the fence. honestly I feel like this fence situation is peak korean. like it's just a bunch of deeply enraged people with poker faces not doing anything to breach the fence (would be too unlawful) and every now and then you hear an ajussi swearing in dialect

Oh cool, #syncthing is trending for the first time (I am aware of). Would have been nice if it was for another reason. There seems to be quite a bit of confusion about what the android app discontinuation means.

First things first:
It is *not* SyncThing, it's *syncthing* or maybe *Syncthing* […]
