In my eighties. A "Grandpa Warrior" still in good health and with all my marbles. Vietnam-era veteran. Anti-war activist my whole adult life due to Vietnam experience. Devoted to Gandhi and the power of non-violent action. Happily married 55 years.
Dems may have learned a lesson from ACA shutdown. Don't trust GOP promises. Promises to fix ACA while delaying impact on the little guy until solution found. Dems suckered. Not this time. Very same tactic used: stonewalling, "recesses", empty promises. Dems not biting that lure this time.

Let's face it. These billionaires want a free lunch while patting themselves on the back based on the measure of their wealth. Many times not for actual achievements but because they could play the Wall Street casino game really well.

Once upon a time, a cover-up had a chance to work. But this is the age of the Internet, globalization, and AI. Tech solutions, once verified and proven, cannot be bought. Truth is destined to win in this age of Information and Evidence. Sorry Bondi.

IMO for years, America has taken Canada for granted. Canada's friendliness has been confused with weakness. No more. Carney is the man of the hour. In the end, we Americans will be the better for it. With time, I'm confident that we will eventually restore our friendship, but truly as equals.

Trump doesn't have friends. He has targets, suckers, and sycophants who ride his coattails. Just my observation, of course.

I agree. But at least China's actions can be predicted. Step on Taiwan and you'll lose your foot. At least you know where you stand and what are the odds. Our Prez, not so much.

Was that before or after Trump claimed to have been the first to turn water into wine?

May he rest in peace.

The Minnesota protest may have seemed like a good idea, free speech and all that. But IMO bad tactics with predictable results. I don't care IF the preacher was an ICE officer. Protests may be non-violent but still counter-effective. You don't win over people by p*ssing them off. Just saying...

I can't think of any two governments more opposite than Trump's and China's. China thinks in the long term, not in minutes or days. Their concern is stability, not chaos. The culture is ancient, wise, and to be respected. Prez on record as being "a child". IMO Trump would lose this game of GO.

One of my favorite Duvall films is "The Apostle". About a self-proclaimed man "of God" who talks the talk but doesn't walk the walk. Yet once life brings him low, step-by-step he then discovers his true path. And as the story closes, instead of being broken again by life, IMO reaches redemption.

Thank you for your kind words. My family will always be proud Canadian-Americans no matter what idiot runs this show. I hope you're right. We've made mistakes in our voting booths before but THIS one is a real doozy.

Well, you're right about one American family, mine, We celebrated our own family day with a nice lunch together. But I'm an optimist. The day will come when President's Day will mean something once more. When we again have a President and not an aspiring king.

AI: DHS issued the subpoenas and they were ADMINISTRATIVE subpoenas, not criminal and not backed by a judge's signature. And some of these companies fell for it, thereby becoming complicit with supporting an illegal fishing expedition. Strategy very similar to DOGE. & Very much Stephen Miller.

Absolutely, this smells like a different version of the "antifa myth" threat and the recent threats against ActBlue. But if you want to feel your network identity to be even more secure. I wouid also recommend that you start using a VPN when connecting to the Internet.

Through the decades of my life, there have been favored models for "cool": Bogart, Elvis, the Fonz. But for me, Bugs will always be at the top of my list. Plus he taught me to venture into the world of classical music at a very young age, via laughter. Remember his "Barber of Saville"?

I see you wear the uniform. My pleasure, fellow veteran. Honor above all!

IMO people like Musk often live in a false reality, They believe that nothing could have been achieved without themselves. Often demand loyalty from staff but with no sense of gratitude for those who helped make their success possible. So they become hungry takers, not givers. & over paid.

You can add U.S. Indian reservations as first conceived by these United States and now "managed" by our Department of Interior, I believe. By the way, CNN reported yesterday of all those detained by ICE, only 14% had a criminal record.

Time to make "good trouble".

And thanks, PBS and NPR. Via PBS, I get info never mentioned in the States, with a whole different perspective. France24, NHK (Japan), BBC, DW (Germany). All supported by my local PBS stations. Not to mention PBS/NPR provided news. Calmly and sanely delivered. (May Breaking News finally break!)
