This accident was handled by my VAB travel insurance. They were generally great and transferred me to a wonderful private hospital. Only thing I hated was that they forced me to return home rather than let me recover fully in Thailand. But that seems to be standard for many travel insurances.

I have a very affordable but great Belgian travel insurance from VAB, downside is it’s a yearly subscription but only covers trips of max 4 months at a time, but if I return home and depart again I get another 4 months. For longer trips I switch to Genki Nomad insurance after 4 months.

I highly recommend having good travel insurance!! This would have been a very expensive joke of I had not had insurance. Lots of scans, 2 weeks hospital, flight home in business class with a nurse assisting me… and the accident happened in a flash of a moment, not even doing anything crazy!

by stretching my leg but that actually caused a lot of impact on my knee thanks to the speed of tripping and the weight of my backpack. Heard it crack, knee buckled, hit my head on the ground… happened in front of medical unit so nurses were there instantly. Ambulance to the ER, 2 weeks hospital 🙄

Oh, it was incredibly stupid. I was carrying my big backpack, walking out of the airport (Don Mueang) looking in the distance where I could cross the road to my hotel and not seeing there was a block of concrete right in front of my foot. I tripped over it, tried to stop myself from falling 1/2

Really amazing to see those rays of light hit the temple inside the cave...

I like it! It's not the most beautiful city, but it has great food, a nice beach, people are friendly. Accommodation is cheap. It's pretty relaxed for a big city. Definitely a good place for digital nomads. We've had some gloomy rainy weather in December but things are improving now.
