There are many persuasive and powerful reasons to define witchcraft in terms of practice or the secular, but because we’re willing to let white Christians define what religion looks like isn’t one of them.

“Religion” is as much a product of colonialism as anything else. It’s about where power lives and who gets to count. And the popular definitions that we rely on are white, European, and Christian.

It can also be an indication that you haven’t studied religion broadly, especially outside of a western context. Define what you want, how you want to serve your own craft. Just don’t make sweeping, definitive statements about what the rest of us are up to. Because you’ll always be wrong. #witchsky
