"Do you want me to help?" "I think you've done enough, Seungcheol," Jeonghan says, clipped, elbowing his way into the apartment. He's still hungover, most likely visibly so. Besides, he'd rather do this on his own, and Seungcheol would be no help at all. Crawling out of Joshua's bed to come here feels like self-harm. Like touching the stove to see if it still feels the same. But the last of the boxes are stacked each row three boxes high, each one filled with Jeonghan's things that the movers didn't take. A lot of things accumulate over the course of three years. Ephemera, sweatshirts purchased in airport gift shops, and keepsakes from weddings and funerals and vacations. It hurts more than anything that they're both like this. Sentimental. "How is-" "He's fine." Seungcheol makes an affronted noise, barely repressing an eye roll. "I'm just trying to make small talk, Jeonghan-ah," he says, that annoyance flaring up before falling behind. The room falls cold. "Since I'm losing both of you in the breakup." Jeonghan grits his teeth and swallows. Doesn't say you never had him the way you had me. Doesn't say it's not like things can change. Presses on the bruise and gives him a tight smile, swallows down the bile. "His mom invited us to visit her." The reaction comes in slow ripples. It's a bitter pill, that Joshua's mother never liked Seungcheol very much, always thought he'd drank too much, that he'd been too touchy with her most precious son. When the fighting started, she'd taken Jeonghan's side. Didn't make her relief unknown when Joshua and Jeonghan had moved out of their shared home. University can't be forever, right? had been met with a knowing glance across the centerpiece and an agreeance that had come with the knowledge that a ghost would haunt them on every street. Down the line. Leaving the apartment behind only cuts the tether. "Well, I hope both of you are happy without me." Seungcheol's voice comes in a thin whisper, his ashen face nearly matching the paint. "You deserve each other." Jeonghan rolls his eyes and loads the crane. The rental truck is barely three stories below but it feels like hundreds. Watching the boxes and the dreams become smaller and smaller. Kids with his laugh, with Joshua's eyes. It feels like a threat now. Something to haunt them. The final boxes descend, and Seungcheol doesn't look at Jeonghan again, even when he reaches for the door handle and slides on his shoes. When he turns back, the room is empty. As if no one had ever been there.

Jeonghan's voice doesn't betray concern or amusement, even when Seungcheol winces. He can feel vibrations in his teeth. "I just wanted you to-" His knee nearly gives out, and Jeonghan tsks, all faux pity. "I didn't forget about you," he says, changing the plug speed. If walking around with it in was a distraction, this is an active nuisance. When the vibrations kick up, his teeth go numb. "Jeonghan-ah," Seungcheol whines. "You know this"-and he gestures-"wasn't what I meant when I called." "Are you okay? Still comfortable?" Scoffing, Seungcheol shoots a glare towards his phone screen. "Yes," he says through gritted teeth. "I'm fine." Jeonghan is staring back at him with his pleased Squirtle smile, sun kissing his skin. "Then lighten up, Cheollie."
