Manganese, key for wind turbines and EV batteries, is crucial to Europe’s green transition. In Georgia, extracting it strains local ecosystems and communities, a quiet reminder that the metals behind renewables come with real costs. t.ly/dafhF #earthinvestigations

I am lucky to meet the most amazing people through my job. Last week, for Red Line, I interviewed one of my all time heroes: Dr. Allison Skidmore, a wildlife crime expert, who went undercover to investigate tiger poaching in Siberia!

The UK has appointed its first-ever female leader for Britain’s MI6 spy agency — and no, Judi Dench didn’t count. Prime Minister Keir Starmer named Blaise Metreweli chief of the Secret Intelligence Service on Sunday.

Wilders’ decision to step down: political suicide or strategy? In a PVV-stronghold in Limburg, opinions are divided. What the Wilders voters Alix le Bourdon and I spoke with had in common? Disappointment with politicians in The Hague, who don’t do enough to help them www.arte.tv/.../pays-bas...

A few months ago, for the @groene.nl & Vreme we followed the money & mapped the actors behind these shipments. Behind these arms transfers - a murky network involving Pentagon-linked private contractors, a Serbian exporter close to the Belgrade regime, and a former KGB agent with ties to the Kremlin

On Thursday, Russia accused Serbia of enabling weapons deliveries to Ukraine, calling it a “stab in the back.” Vučić says he discussed the issue with Putin and that a joint working group will be set up to "investigate" how these weapons are getting through.

But we already know how! 🧶

When crime & corruption cross borders, so must journalism. Wrongdoing rarely respects national boundaries; cross-border collaboration is more vital than ever. I’ve had the privilege of working with brilliant colleagues in Bosnia. But such journalism is under pressure spin-portal.info/saradnja-ist...

Absolute must read.

If you read one thing today, let it be this: Barbara Matejčić investigates the World Press Photo of a murder in Bosnia during the war. How did the photographer capture the killing — and why didn’t the jury ask tougher questions?
