Welles Declaration helped the Baltic states to regain their freedom 50 years later. Now the US government is going to betray Ukraine.
A long way (in the wrong direction) from the US's 1940 Welles Declaration, refusing to recognise Soviet annexation of the Baltic states. Welles was right: predatory activity by a strong state against a weak one undermines civilisation. It was 51 years till the Baltic states regained independence.
