I have now addressed the cards so finding the stamps would be great

(There's some really cool digital Humanities stuff in, say, palaeography which has been absolutely game changing. The thing is, it has also been like... actually designed for the field in question, not designed for a vague idea of what researching the humanities is)

The AI/LLM hype also just feels really qualitatively different to discussion of actually useful digital Humanities tools. Like... no one is saying that those should be used for absolutely everything.

I don't want Copilot offering to summarise a chapter *I recently wrote* for me when I open Office.

(Also incredibly fed up of jobs boards being full of "why not train LLMs" positions (all insecure) under the titles of the various jobs they are replacing)

I think there is also a thing where if it wasn't being so forced on people in places where they do not want it, it might be easier to focus on the "ah there are some interesting analytical tools here" aspects. Like, I don't want an AI summary thing coming up when searching in the library and...

Ehlers-Danlos loops are awful, I'm sorry. (Also god it is a syndrome which causes *so many loops* of different kinds)

Or that the ancient Irish were just hugely more optimistic than the current Irish. (Perhaps aftermath of constructing the big stone clock was a core development here)

Yeah be really careful of burnout inducing stuff and that would be a lot of work. (But I get it and you would be good at it, just... maybe not right now)

Early happy birthday!

I watched the delightful Hi-Life last night which is almost this but it's kind of more that it is a movie where Christmas is happening at the same time as the events of the movie. (Which is also a good sub genre of Christmas movie)

(Maybe there is not enough drama there or something, but I feel like everyone has their years when they are a bit meh about it but also trying to take part)

(i.e. if I was travelling from Chester it might mean that I had a single from Chester to Shrewsbury, then say another from Shrewsbury to Birmingham, then a last leg from Birmingham to London. You're not necessarily changing trains but different tickets cover different legs of the journey)

Ticket where you have a ticket to one destination along your route and then another. Can be worth it for longer journeys if you need to make the saving, although it tends to mean you are locked into a particular train/set of connections

(Also for London to Oxford the Oxford Tube (24 hour stopping coach service where you can pay when boarding or on advance) can be cheaper and better than train)
December 19, 2025 at 6:35 PM
Even if you are travelling fairly short notice (i.e. later that day), it's worth using Trainline or Trainpal (for split tickets) as things are often a lot cheaper.

I would say so called AI is for the birds but I do not want to inflict it on them
December 18, 2025 at 7:13 PM
At least you would be able to tell why the birds had the vending machine order a live fish...

(Based on a headline I just read for an article I cannot access)

Look, the birds are bored and really feel like they could do with more structure in their day. They would relish taking on some of our routine and boring tasks

It's so incredibly offensive to survivors as well as incredibly racist. Just horrible.
