Happy Celebrate Bisexuality Day! This day is the last day of #BisexualAwarenessWeek, which seeks to amplify the voices of the bi+ (bisexual, pansexual, fluid, etc.) community to combat bi-erasure.
Check out the research we highlighted this #BiWeek in support of the beautiful bi+ community! 🩷💜💙

💜💙🩷 Bisexual Awareness Week

Participants in our video gaming study, LEVEL UP! 🎮, taught us that representation matters. Too often, bisexuality is framed as a “phase." In The Last of Us 2, Dina is a thoughtful exception to this trend.

Here’s to seeing more representation like this in media!

This #BisexualAwarenessWeek, we're spotlighting research from @drliamcahill.bsky.social! His study shows how bisexual men are often grouped as "sexual minority men," ignoring the nuance of their experiences. This article reminds us to continue to resist bi erasure! 🩷💜💙

"It's really in this time of intense resistance that we often do come together across difference in a really different way, so I think there's the opportunity here. Because of these experiences, ... we can help each other become much stronger and really find joy and hope." - Dr. Shelley Craig
inqyr.bsky.social
Our discussion ends with a discussion of joy.

"While there may be horrors and discrimination and violence, there is also so much light in the resistance, resilience, and agency [of SGMY]." - Dr. Ignacio Lozano-Verduzco
inqyr.bsky.social
Dr. Dane Marco Di Cesare highlights that our work as academics committed to social justice "is more than just generating great data and publishing papers ... Our research has to educate, but [also] finding those ways to inform practice and policy in real ways."
inqyr.bsky.social
In response, Dr. Craig believes that "the key is [that] we're sort of learning together" and it is more important, now than ever, to be as transparent as possible and ensure that participants remain in the loop throughout the research process.
inqyr.bsky.social
The panelists discuss the importance of trust, noting that both SGMY participants and community partners have understandably shown more hesitancy in participating in research because of fears of being misrepresented and data usage amidst our current climate.

"We need to understand that we need to face these issues together. And despite [the fact that] we might have differences, our main goal is collective and is shared." - Dr. Ignacio Lozano-Verduzco

"I think it's really important to not wait for somebody else to do it, whether it's to make a collaboration, to create a collaboration, or to do outreach"
