This is so interesting! Meanwhile I and many others are trying to figure out ways to keep bots OUT. I wonder about the implications of using silicon samples particularly in these anti-science times and what stereotypes about marginalized groups are implicit in these samples.

Can large language models stand in for human participants?
Many social scientists seem to think so, and are already using "silicon samples" in research.

One problem: depending on the analytic decisions made, you can basically get these samples to show any effect you want.

THREAD 🧵
The threat of analytic flexibility in using large language models to simulate human data: A call to attention
Social scientists are now using large language models to create "silicon samples" - synthetic datasets intended to stand in for human respondents, aimed at revolutionising human subjects research. How...

In the constant battle to resist the flood of AI generated junk, one recurring red flag is papers that devolve into long lists of bullet points and ideas in outline form. These are easy for LLMs to generate and it requires effort to turn them into prose, effort some authors do not expend.

It was super refreshing to wear my change manager hat for this one and highlight how this reform process applied recognized best practices in organizational change management!

3️⃣ Change is dynamic and constant: Curriculum reform needs to evolve in response to changing sociopolitical contexts (e.g., TRC Calls to Action, movements against anti-Black and anti-Asian racism). This is not a one-time fix and ongoing monitoring is required to anticipate future needs for change.
dr-ashley-brooks.bsky.social
2️⃣ Engage your stakeholders: Field supervisors, practicing social workers, and accreditation frameworks all provided vital information to signal the need for change and contribute to a shared vision for the future state.

1️⃣ Use the strengths of top-down *and* bottom-up strategies: Change leaders need to create consistent conditions for reform while consulting deeply with those implementing curricular reform on the ground.

Walked into a high school classroom at open house... and it looked more like an activist's meeting room than a place to learn AP World History.

Pride flags. Trans flags. LGBTQ slogans and decor covering the walls.

Not one thing about history.

Our kids deserve a neutral, focused learning environment - not a teacher's personal ideology shoved in their faces. This is happening right in your community, and it's not by accident.

If we don't fight it now, it becomes permanent.

Who's ready to stand up and demand this garbage be removed from our classrooms?

This is the definition of a failed social media platform.
For scientists who use social media to encourage followers to visit external links (websites, papers, etc.,) here’s some data from this blog. For nearly a decade, Twitter was the #1 or #2 source of traffic to the blog almost every day. It hasn’t been in the top 10 sources of traffic to the blog in years, and a single SheetMusicPlus.com article from 2016 generates more traffic here than all of Twitter. So far this year, Bluesky is responsible for about 100x as much traffic as Twitter. AltMetric reports that despite Twitter having 10x the user base as BlueSky, BlueSky users share almost as many scholarly publications as Twitter users- and Twitter’s numbers are declining as Bluesky’s rise.
