I listened to this album every day for like 2 months when I first discovered it. So groovy, great musicianship, and the lyrics strike a perfect balance between funny and bleak.

A quintessential millennial anxiety record and THE quintessential Cheekface record, imho.

Happy birthday, Emphatically No
happy 5th birthday to “emphatically no.”!

this was our “pandemic album.” we’d recorded it and mostly mixed it before the pandemic, but many told us it spoke to feelings that were triggered by the pandemic. I remember how eagerly I’d wait for each single to come out throughout

I feel like Guillermo Del Toro saw Poor Things and was like “I’m going to create a Frankenstein film that is even more fantastical, flamboyant, and uncomfortably erotic than that…and also I’m gonna add a reeeeeeaaaaaallllyyy tall tower.”

And god bless him, he did.

I truly think Blackstar is Bowie’s best work. It feels free of any commercial pressures and is such a pure and imposing artistic statement.

Brilliantly composed, and the band he assembled is fucking stellar. I’m particularly enamored with Mark Guiliana’s drum work and Donny McCaslin on sax.

10/10
Happy Birthday David Bowie, born this day in 1947.

His 26th and final album "Blackstar" (★) was released on this day in 2016.

David Bowie would pass away just a couple of days later. Rest in Peace.

Apparently the show got cancelled for tonight. F
Seeing Bug on Broadway tonight for its final preview. Not familiar with this particular play, but if it’s even remotely as dark and disturbing as Tracy Letts’ other work, I think I’m in for a real treat.

“why are you still on twitter” -> whiny, makes you sound like a scold

“oh you post on the pedophile app” -> makes them sound like a pedophile

Revisited this masterpiece today. I don’t think any other album quite captures the feelings of rage and helplessness that permeate all existence in this decade like NODREAM. Perfect songwriting and some of the tightest musicianship in all of punk rock. May be my favorite record of the 2020’s so far.

Really wish I was able to catch this a second time, because I was FLOORED by this production. Whole cast was great, but Alex gave a stellar performance that so honestly balanced a world-weary brokenness with an indefatigable sense of humor.

Also, Michael Patrick Thornton was REVELATORY as Lucky.

Absolutely obsessed with this performance of Cemetery Polka. 100% peak unhinged polytonal Tom Waits brilliance.

Me listening to a highly-acclaimed, universally adored art rock album vs. me listening to the cheesiest power metal of album of all time.

Decided to take a year off from social media last year for the sake of sanity. Today was probably a bad choice to start again.
