This is not an academic paper. She doesn't even cite her fucking Bible sources. Never mind that her reading of the biblical sources is entirely off -- that's another fisking for another day -- she does not say, "From an evangelical Christian pov, this approach does not hold. +

maybe this seems legalistic to some, but the USG is spending huge amounts of $$$ at this point to intimidate another country, without any real clear goals *except* coercion (for regime change? who knows). the Charter is clear that this conduct is illegal.

They're bogus but you can at least rationalize quasi-legalistic grounds for using military force against cartels, that they're a kind of combatant enemy. But killing people who are desperately clinging to wreckage in the open ocean is everywhere and always stone cold, undeniable, zero excuse murder.
