RFK Jr. is the last person I would seek advice from on this. Ignoring him was a good call.

Found this on my windshield a couple of weeks ago when I was at Chapters on Bayer's Lake. The anti-vaxx crowd rehashing a debunked talking point about aluminum preservatives. Because sepsis is a better alternative, apparently.

#ACCESS2025 Has wrapped up. Had some fun conversations about high-sensitivity eDNA markers for Atlantic Salmon. ^_^

Inhibition is one of the main confounding factors in eDNA work due to increased risk of false negatives (Type II Error). I found diluting samples does not work well as it over-dilutes the samples. We've been using Recombinant Albumim (RA) as of late. #eDNA

Hello there,

I'm with the Marine Gen Probe Lab at Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia, Canada and we do a lot of #eDNA detection work in freshwater lakes around the province, especially within the Petite Rivière. My job is processing samples and optimizing methods.

Cheers, everyone. 🐟🧬

Let's all agree right now that Melon Husk should never, ever, ever be allowed to buy this platform.

When you have three multiplex PCRs to do, each one takes three hours, and your third machine decides to stop working so you spend 3 hours longer than planned on your work.

My day yesterday.

For a previous experiment we put out several of these devices around our laboratory space to determine if we could gather detectable levels of fish DNA from the air (i.e. is aerial contamination of eDNA samples a risk).

The answer was yes for at least Atlantic Salmon and Atlantic Whitefish.

We didn't hear about this in time to join in (MGPL at Dalhousie) but we'll keep an eye out for future opportunities.
On International day of #Biodiversity -> May 22, hundreds of people will join forces to sample the world's biodiversity from the lens of #eDNA. Together we'll make a dataset like no other about the state of life on 🌍

I knew about passive water filters (e.g. Wilder Lab kits, see here: www.wilderlab.co.nz) but hadn't heaed of anything passive for air. So this is promising.

Canadian politics in one shot.

Okay. Now that THAT'S out of my system, I recently discovered you can still manage to overload a MiSeq v2 flow cell when you load at 6pM (low diversity library). And that's even with a 20% PhiX spike-in.

Time to check the qPCR standards!

If you extract DNA using kits but keep running out of columns, I recommend trying these. Bulk spin columns.

Si vous utilisez les kits extraire l'ADN mais vous etez limité parce que les tubes collecteurs, essayez-ces.

Was looking through my feed and noticed that I have yet to roast CBU for irresponsible enrollment inflation. This error must be corrected.

Also, this is a horribly transparent attempt to exploit a university for a dollar and shame on Dingwall.

There. All is in balance once again.
