A twitter refugee like most of you. Hoping for a better country but now skeptical we'll see that in my lifetime.

Data security by day, trying to make sense of the world by night (and sometimes during the day, too).
Agree. Officiating should be best effort of the officials on the field/ice/whatever. They'll miss some calls, but it'll even out in the end, no one team will have any real benefit over any other.

The big factor, I think, is betting, which is corrosive to everything it touches.

"not quite exiled, not quite welcome back" I mean... it's literally welcoming him back if he has a special and novel being published. In what way can that be anything other than being welcome back? smh

You'd think the people required to take citizenship courses would be the fascists assaulting and kidnapping people off the streets.

Please specify which "opinions" you believe should be sacrificed for the greater good, and how you define that greater good we should focus on instead.

I remember a journalist friend told me like 15 years ago that the news was morphing into just reflecting what's on social media. That reporters were being supplanted by what's popular in the moment. Seems like that ethos is affecting uni's similarly. Seems bad!
November 29, 2025 at 7:20 PM
This is so depressing to read. It seems like uni's are on course to eventually make classwork just like scrolling twitter/bsky/tik tok. "Scroll for 5 minutes than tell us how you feel" or something, smh.

And they are fully embracing the tools that prove their "work" is literally nothing more than the most generic output possible. Best part for me is that they're too dumb to realize this.
November 29, 2025 at 4:20 PM
This really seems like the end-game for execs. A bunch of "agents" writing emails back and forth while their people write "prompts".
November 29, 2025 at 4:16 PM
I love that execs' use of AI for their work does nothing except prove that their "work" is literally to output the most general garbage possible (which is all LLMs are doing). Truly, not only useless people, but so dumb that they don't even know it when the evidence is right in front of them.
November 29, 2025 at 4:13 PM
It's also a damning indictment on the value of execs' work. Their jobs are to write the most generic emails/docs/whatever, which is literally what LLMs are designed to do. Execs' use of AI simply proves the uselessness of their work LOL.
November 29, 2025 at 4:12 PM
It mostly explains the value of executives' work in relation to workers'. Execs spend their time writing the most generic emails/docs, which is literally what LLMs are designed to do (output the most statistically-probable output). Of course, that won't be the message we take away, sadly.

They both have prestige law schools, and access to how many top-tier lawyers either on staff/faculty or in the alumni network. And they just... fold.
November 29, 2025 at 5:35 AM
Look, it takes hundreds of thousands of dollars and top-notch legal talent to fight these things. Where is NW going to find that kind of firepower? They're just a little guy lacking resources or access to lawyers.
November 29, 2025 at 2:12 AM
It's insane how the tech that we should be embracing 100% (solar) is being hamstrung, while the tech we neither need nor want (AI) is being shoved down our throats while the environment is ravaged to build data centers to enrich like 12 people. smh
November 29, 2025 at 1:35 AM
I don't know why you made up a typo to attribute to me, but whatever.

Yeah, I know about snowblowers. I was talking about small-scale snowcat-type plows. And advancement refers to making them smaller, more fuel efficient, cheaper, etc.

But all that aside I guess you really got me with that zinger.

"Many people are morons and have unreasonable and objectively wrong beliefs. Is it time we started letting them dictate reality?"

No. No, it is not. It never will be.
November 28, 2025 at 10:10 PM
Glad they dedicated two reporters to that well-researched story LOL. They must have had to stay up late doing all that work.
November 28, 2025 at 9:22 PM
I am fully convinced that unsubscribe works like 50% of the time at best. I swear I have hit that button on the same emails time and time again. Just adds to the frustration.
November 28, 2025 at 8:40 PM
I mean... it was a generally-applicable statement not limited to Seattle. And the main point is that the tech could have been advanced to the point where it, or its progeny, would be applicable to Seattle (lots of hills, icy snow, etc).
November 28, 2025 at 8:39 PM
Like 30 years ago, in my smallish northeastern town an hour outside of Boston, I remember seeing small snowplows clearing sidewalks. Not city sidewalks, smaller town sidewalks. It's amazing that tech hasn't made its way to being a commonplace occurrence in cities.

"Everyone else needs to suffer more, for the greater good. Not me, though. My pension should be rock solid. The services I rely upon should remain funded (and be expanded!) It's all those other people who need to make sacrifices. Again, for the common good. Which is me and mine."
November 28, 2025 at 4:48 PM
This applies to everyone and everything. We *all* break some number of laws every day, often knowingly (speeding), often unknowingly (I don't know, maybe taxes?) But only immigration gets the "throw them out!" treatment, I guess because people want an outlet for their worst selves/impulses?
November 28, 2025 at 4:43 PM
I saw "effective altruism" in his bio and immediately thought "he's suspect".

And no one chooses an oddly specific number like .7% if they aren't consciously trying to lie.
November 28, 2025 at 4:36 PM
You joke, but I truly believe Biden should have deported both Musk and Thiel at the end of his term. It was obvious at the time how dangerous those two are. Missed opportunity.
November 28, 2025 at 4:25 PM
It's the same with Musk, and every other ignorant, racist piece of shit. They believe they know everything and spout the most insane shit with complete confidence because they're in positions of power. It's deranged.
