the bug collector🪲🪿🦋🐚

#illustration #bugs #edwardian
An illustration of an edwardian-era woman sits in a chair in warm afternoon sunlight in an office covered floor-to-ceiling in natural curios. Shells, tree matter, feathers, bones, frames full of bugs, and plants litter the room. The woman sits in a moment of pause, holding a pen, her other hand leafing through a notebook filled with scrawlings. The woman has brown skin that glows in the warm light, glasses, and textured hair pulled into a Gibson-girl-era sweeping updo. She wears a white blouse with billowing mutton sleeves that extend just beyond her elbows, and a deep green skirt lined with black ribbons.

an upside down flag is universal code for a distress signal—it’s an intentional gesture meant to coincide with the message of the protest

i’ve seen this one around for a couple weeks—they’ve got a pretty ambitious goal of 10 mil (3.5% of the pop) but i think if it’s shared around enough hopefully eventually we could make a dent?

In the spirit of today’s festivities, I’m sharing a sneak peek full of ✨yearning✨ of a piece I had the pleasure of doing for @metalweavegames.com new project, How to GM Romance! AD’ed by the always incredible Nala J. Wu🥹🩵
Two women dressed in regency-style wear kiss passionately between the bars of a wrought iron garden gate. One women, with dark skin wears a sumptuous velvet red gown with puffy white sleeves and lacy trim, her curly dark hair is pinned with pearls, brooches inlaid with gems, and fluffy plumage. One hand clutches the shoulder of her lover, the other lingers on a stone barrier, holding a folded fan. The woman on the other side of the gate, of South Asian descent, wears a simple woven bonnet and a plain dress, her dark hair tumbles loosely down her back. One of her hands wraps around the waist of the woman in velvet clutching a single pale rose. Their expressions convey a sense of yearning, separated by barriers of rigid class expectations —their love is forbidden but inevitable. The hue of the piece is pinks and reds, the color of sinking sunsets and blushing cheeks.

Do you ever use these for drawing? I sit on the couch a lot (bad habit i know) while working and i’ve considering trying these so I don’t have to be craning my neck so often if I’m not at my desk—wasn’t sure it would be great to use with screens though.

sprinkling starlight across the fallen snow✨❄️
Digital artwork of a woman dressed in early medieval robes carries the moon suspended from a chain as she backs across a snowy forest clearing. Underneath her arm is tucked a wicker basket that is tipped to the ground, spilling with stars and twinkling light that scatters to the snow on the ground. The snow sparkles in the light of the moon she carries, and in the valley of the clearing is a small herd of tiny deer, dwarfed in size by the goddess above them. The artwork is colored in shades of pale blues and yellows to emphasize a wintry atmosphere.

An email inbox flooded with desperate and clingy messaging from the current US president’s team begging for money

Painting of two figures, both original characters, in an embrace. A smaller, blonde man with light skin and freckles is enveloped from behind in the arms of a larger man, with tan skin, curly dark hair with gray in it, and a beard. Blood on the larger man’s hand drips down to where it holds the smaller man’s, so they are both bloodied. The smaller man is wearing regency-era clothing: a white shirt, white stock tied in a bow, black waistcoat, and black coat. The larger man wears a loose white shirt with the sleeves rolled to expose his forearms, and which blends into the background of the painting.

If we want to get serious about addressing declining literacy rates in the US, we gotta stop shaming people for what and how they read. Speaking as someone who has personally struggled, shame is a sure fire way to kill any enthusiasm and curiosity toward reading, which kills any ambition to learn.
