What I don't get is when we have 100s of AI tools for anything and everything, why is it that Alexa and Siri are still dumb AF?

Just learned that the Nyanyana crocodile farm (a farm that is used to produce hides for fashionable leather bags) that is situated along the shores of the world’s largest artificial lake (Lake Kariba in Zimbabwe) is raising crocodiles on a vegetarian diet.

As of 2020, the Earth’s magnetic North Pole is just beyond the Canadian Arctic at 86.50°N Lat 162.87°E Long. The magnetic South is not diametrically opposite to it. Instead, it is just off the coast of Antartica 64.08°S Lat and 135.87°E Long. The poles move ~55 kms per year. 🤯

In June23 the EU approved a draft law that requires large companies to proactively look for child labour, human rights abuses and environmental damage throughout their supply chains. Any multinational outside the EU that earns a certain threshold revenue from Europe will also be subject to the law.

Random thought:
If flying cars and flying taxis were to become a reality, it would spell doom for all the avian denizens of human settlements. Any advancement in technology for the convenience of humans shouldn't be at the expense of other living creatures.

Can anyone recommend a good Home Cloud device? Western Digital has quite a few options on Amazon but the reviews aren't positive.

Everytime I come across any discussion on the importance of water I can't help but appreciate the fact that ice is less dense than liquid water. This unusual characteristic of water has been instrumental in allowing the emergence and flourishing of life as we know it on Earth.

I was today years old when I learned that Leon Lederman named his book about the Higgs Boson "The Goddamn Particle" cause no one knew anything about it. His publisher wasn't too happy with the name and instead published the book as "The God Particle". That's how we got the name.

Does it bother anyone here when their Uber driver doesn't give them a 5 star rating? I guess it comes from the need for validation from total strangers that we all have. I wonder if this need existed before the advent of social media.🤔

Heading for a weekend boys trip. I can't help but ponder the peculiar nature of such trips, given that I'm well into my 30s. Instead of invigorating the soul and refreshing the mind, these jaunts leave me feeling weary and spent, like a traveler lost in a desert without a compass or a guide.

Discovered this absolute gem - audiopen.ai Blabber your thoughts to it and the AI will transcribe what you said, polish and summarize it. I now use it to write passive aggressive mails.
AudioPen | The easiest way to convert messy thoughts into clear text
AudioPen transcribes and summarizes unstructured voice notes into text that’s easy to read and ready to share. If you like thinking out loud, you'll love Audio Pen. It's like having a personal assistant who records and summarizes your thoughts.

I've seen people say that BlueSky "doesn't have hashtags", but... neither did Twitter! Hashtags were invented by *users*.

Twitter actually rejected hashtags! But users kept using them with third-party search tools, and eventually they were so popular that Twitter had to provide built-in support.

For Twitter's security-conscious users, there remains only one way to send someone an encrypted message, and it hasn't changed in years. Send someone a DM, ask for their Signal number, and use Signal to start an actual, end-to-end encrypted conversation 🤣
Twitter’s Encrypted DMs Are Deeply Inferior to Signal and WhatsApp
The social network’s new privacy feature is technically flawed, opt-in, and limited in its functionality. All this for just $8 a month.
